In line with our commitment to bring on board qualified, skilled and motivated team members, we are seeking to recruit suitably qualified candidate for the below position; Research Assistant.
The objective of this position is to support research projects, conduct research, analyze results, and generate original ideas.
Assist in the Coordination of student research projects, development of student research skills, and assessment of student knowledge in accordance with the University’s strategy, policy, and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director Research, the position holder will be responsible for the following, amongst others:
To contribute to teaching and be involved in the assessment of student knowledge including assisting in the supervision of student projects and in the development of student research skills.
Prepare materials for getting approval from NACOST and liaises with NACOSTI on behalf of
researchers
Provide guidance as required to support staff and any students who may need assistance with the
research.
Manage University research and administration activities.
Contribute to the planning of research conferences, workshop seminars, and research projects.
Monitor research budgets and prepare departmental reports.
Build internal contacts and participate in internal networks for the exchange of information and to form relationships for future collaboration.
Work with Director Research to share information and identify potential sources of funds.
Prepare proposals and applications
to external bodies, e.g., for funding and contractual purposes.
Contribute to collaborative decision-making with colleagues in areas of research.
Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualification & Experience
Masters’ degree and Willingness to study for a PhD
Possess sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programs
Evidence of research activity and published research is desirable
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Advance Knowledge of data analysis using SPSS, R programming, or SAS
Able to communicate material of a specialist or highly technical nature
Able to manage research and administrative activities and to balance competing pressures of research and administrative demands and deadlines
Good interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with colleagues and students
Able to build contacts and participate in internal and external networks for the exchange of information and collaboration.
Able to identify potential sources of funding.
