Summary Contribute to the successful launch of the HerStart: Innovate the Future program by flexing your organization, research and creativity skills during the program start-up phase.
Support YCI’s Toronto and in-country teams to design and implement innovative programming for young social entrepreneurs, primarily women.
This is an opportunity to strengthen your CV with practical research, training and project coordination experience with an international organization.
In the process, learn about women’s empowerment, climate action and social entrepreneurship – pivotal frameworks that are shaping the future of work, social impact and gender equality globally. .
Key Roles and Responsibilities
• Support the program team in designing, testing and delivering the HerStart social entrepreneurship training sessions and resources
• Support with the outreach, recruitment and ongoing mentorship of participants for the program
• Collaborate with staff, partners and Canadian Fellows to coordinate program logistics and engage in knowledge exchanges and translation support, as needed
• Conduct secondary research on topics such as women’s empowerment, green business, social entrepreneurship and country contexts to inform program design
• Support the communications team in designing, developing and promoting the first episodes of the HerStory podcast series; support the promotion of other opportunities to engage in the program as they arise
• Build libraries of existing, high quality resources and opportunities within the fields of gender equality, green business and social entrepreneurship
• As needed, contribute to the Partnership Sustainability Planning (PSP) process for local partners in each country, identifying key strengths and areas for growth
• As needed, contribute to the drafting and editing of practitioner-friendly (non-academic) research reports, presentations, fact sheets and infographics
• Organize and engage in creative, knowledge sharing and skill building activities and resources, which contribute to the Community of Practice and overall culture of learning

• Daily Stipend: A stipend will be received by National Fellows to cover the costs of transportation and lunch for days worked in office.
National Fellowship Eligibility Requirements
• Must be currently living in Mpigi or Kampala and able to travel to the local YCI office
• Ability to commit to full 4-month placement at 15-20 hours/week during office hours
• Professional level English skills (written and verbal)
• Currently enrolled in or graduated from a relevant post-secondary degree or diploma (or the equivalent work experience)
• Demonstrated interest in the fields of international cooperation, gender equality and/or social entrepreneurship
• Proficiency in standard software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Note: Individuals of all demographic, academic and professional backgrounds are welcome and encouraged to apply, particularly women.
Desired Qualifications for this Position
• Demonstrate strong writing skills, project coordination experience and attention to detail
• Previous experience in facilitating and/or participating in training programs will be considered an asset
• Some technical research skills will be considered an asset i.e. has conducted research and written
reports and presentations in the past
• Strong organization and time management skills
• Strong teamwork, leadership and problem-solving skills
• Demonstrate ability to be proactive, flexible and take initiative
• Demonstrate ability to interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including openness to differing opinions and views
• Previous experience working with international organizations will be considered an asset
