World Wide Fund Manager, Social Policy in Kenya


Location: Nairobi

Main responsibilities:

  • Develop a project plan for embedding social policies across the Network that is responsive to Network diversity and mechanisms and based on the WWF Social Development Action Plan, in collaboration with Network experts
  • Work with network leaders to secure the resources and commitments to build the plan, drive social policy implementation and measure progress, seek external funding support and manage the project budget
  • Design, in collaboration with relevant Network experts, a monitoring plan that can measure progress on social policy implementation and support learning and adaptive management
  • Facilitate Network consultation processes across the WWF network and its partners to develop consistent and coherent social policy and positions, as requested by the Practice Leaders Forum and in coordination as relevant with the Governance practice;
  • Co-ordinate with the Head of Policy Research & Development to ensure that social policy development is informed by latest analyses and external geo-political trends, and with Head of Global Advocacy to ensure that social policy development is informed by the external political agenda;
  • Collaborate with external partners to identify and contribute to best practice on social development and rights based approaches in conservation and share learning with the WWF network;
  • Facilitate shared learning between Practices on social policy implementation, support people centered communication, and support knowledge management via coordination with WWF communications and maintenance of the SD4C Google workspace and panda.org pages;
  • Convene workshops and think tanks, with internal and external experts, to debate and help develop thinking around specific social policy needs;
  • In coordination with the Head of Global Advocacy and Practices, engage external policy dialogues and represent WWF at senior levels as necessary to transmit WWF policies and positions when required;

    Required Qualifications, Skills and Competencies

  • Graduate or post graduate qualifications in relevant disciplines such as governance, political science, international relations, law, development studies, anthropology, corporate sustainability or equivalent professional experience
  • At least five
    years relevant professional experience including policy analysis and advocacy, gap analysis and capacity building and/or network building
  • Broad understanding of the relationships between social development and rights-based issues and conservation including human rights; gender; indigenous rights; socio-economic development and environment
  • Knowledge of the relationship between global policy norms and standards to on-the-ground implementation
  • Strategic sense and demonstrated delivery of outcomes in a devolved decision making environment
  • Strong internal and external networking, diplomatic and communications skills
  • Ability to lead, inspire and foster inclusive processes and advocacy strategies and see them through to success; embraces Network diversity
  • Ability to work in multicultural, decentralised environment and to create and facilitate virtual teams and virtual workspaces
  • Ability to communicate linkages between WWF work on the ground and local, regional and international policy and norms
  • Capacity to work rapidly and accurately under pressure and to quickly define and adhere to priorities
  • Ability to rapidly digest information and produce clear situation analysis and options and recommendations for next steps
  • Excellent organisational skills, highly computer literate, reliable, flexible, creative and a problem solving attitude
  • Fluency in written and oral English, other languages an advantage
