Purpose of the position:

The Gender and Disability Inclusion Coordinator will support the ECHO EQUATE project to provide technical support to mainstream gender and disability as cross-cutting themes for all the programmatic activities in the EQUATE project.

She/he will ensure gender and disability is integrated into the results-based management frameworks, strengthening and supporting disability inclusion, gender equality strategies and facilitating gender equality capacity strengthening for field teams and partner organizations of WVU via training and tool development.

S/he will not only ensure ECHO EQUATE funded education in Emergency programmes are disability-inclusive and gender sensitive but aims to provide support to make such programmes become gender transformative.

The job holder provides overall programmatic and operational coordination and management including; planning, implementation, capacity enhancement, monitoring/ evaluation and reporting both internally (within WVU) and externally (for/with partners)..

Key Outputs/Responsibilities

  • Lead capacity building for ECHO EQUATE staff and partner organizations members on gender to establish safe and protective learning environment for girls and boys in the Rhino, Imvepi and Palabek refugee Settlement.

  • Guided by gender analysis, the coordinator will support in advocacy to identify and address policy and system barriers to girls’ education;

  • Coordinate project activities between disability inclusion partners, WVU and Consortium partners.

  • Conduct regular gender analysis, community mapping and safety audits to identify and address access and financial barriers to girls’ education.

  • With support from the Programme Manager, formulate key gender messages and targets from lessons learned, assessments, research and evidence gained through project implementation.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of ECHO EQUATE project objectives and initiatives encompassing a wide range of issues with a gender lens.

  • Acquire information and understanding of key gender issues in the country particularly in humanitarian context focusing on boys and girls (e.g., GBV, Early Child Marriage, SRH etc.) and adapt strategies as necessary.

  • Ensure a focus on gender equality, gender mainstreaming and disability inclusion in all components of project implementation.

  • Support in gander and disability inclusion data collection, analyses and reports in KAP study, need assessments and evaluation.

  • Develop and facilitate gender and disability inclusion components in training materials and other project tools and resources.

  • Ensure accessibility of gender and disability inclusion IEC materials developed for the ECHO EQUATE project.

  • Strengthen capacity of WVU project staff, mainstream project partners, facilitators and volunteers on gender and disability inclusion.

  • Support presentation and dissemination of disability components in project documents and meetings.

  • Support WVU and consortium partners to identify and address the intersectionality of gender and disability in project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

  • Participate in district and settlement level sector working group committees, meetings, networks, forums and campaigns related to Gender and Disability
    inclusion components.

  • Support in documentation and sharing of impact/success stories and best practices to promote learning.

  • Strengthen partnership and collaboration for effective Gender and Disability inclusion at district and settlement levels.

  • Work with Project Manager & MEAL Officer, compile and submit timely quarterly and annual project reports.

  • And any other duties assigned to by the supervisor.

    Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

  • The ideal applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Gender Studies, Social Work, Education, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Sociology, Human Rights or any other relevant fields or any other relevant fields with combination of relevant training and experience. Master’s degree will be an added advantage.

  • At least 5 years of experience coordinating and working in Gender and disability inclusion programming, with a strong focus on partnering with the Government Ministries and District authorities; preferably in fragile contexts.

  • Proven experience working on normative change for disability inclusion and gender equality in sensitive contexts

  • Proven experience in supporting the designing, implementing and evaluating disability-inclusive and gender-transformative social and behavior change communication interventions.

  • Experience in supporting the implementation of disability-inclusive and gender-transformative approaches in humanitarian context.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting with minimal supervision

  • Specific knowledge of international development, disability inclusion and gender equality issues; experience engaging children and other community members on gender equality issues desirable.

  • Demonstrable understanding of applying the principles of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in project cycle management

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment

  • Track record demonstrating high integrity, innovativeness, creativity, reliability and dependable

  • Team player, Self-motivator, able to work with limited supervision;

  • Spiritual maturity, interfaith knowledge and a biblical worldview – ability to articulate and model our Christian identity and mission in an inclusive way

  • Must be a committed Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities. Willing to attend and participate/lead in daily devotions and weekly Chapel services.

  • Demonstration of well-developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Effective in written and verbal communication in English. Ability to communicate in applicable local language(s) is an added advantage.
