Job Description

Provide technical support to DFSA staff in the areas of climate change and sustainability programs’ interventions and disaster risk reduction and resilience building (protection, rehabilitation of natural resource conservation) and follow up its implementation at the targeted Woreda level.

Major Responsibilities

Provide guidance and technical support to the design and implementation of DFSA CCA and DRR activities and follow up the implementation of DFSA program in view of the TA of CCA & DRR.

Carry out the guide developed by CCA & DRR advisor towards achieving the best performance and contribute to the consortium member CCA & DRR best practices achieved at the targeted areas and communicate to the respective bodies.

Ensure that DRR issues are sufficiently integrated throughout the program and document emerging learnings and innovations are also applied to the DFSA CCA & DRR module

Provide technical leadership on CCA and DRR in development of detailed implementation plans for the program with other colleagues like, Agriculture and livelihood officers and Institutional strengthening and Social Accountability officers.

Build capacity of DFSA program staff in maintaining current trends and adopting innovations, build the capacity of the program staff and government staff on CCA & DRR to chalk up success in the achievement of resiliency of the community.

Participate in consortium innovation and learning between members by organizing exchange visits, joint learning events, technical briefs, and sharing of training materials.

Participate in the development of CCA & DRR related policy and advocacy, relevant researches, create linkages and opportunities with promising research institutions in order to promote evidence based DFSA achievements at the Woreda level.

Provide technical support in developing program designs and proposals, program, collaboration with M&E officers in developing M&E tools and program with donor frameworks and ensure monitoring and evaluation results are shared

with relevant partners.

Develop and maintain relationships with other like regional and zonal respective local and International NGOs, government agencies, for technical quality, harmony of approaches and improved coordination.

Attend DRR working groups meeting and represent the organization in actors meetings, organize experience sharing forum, filed days, for different National offices and stakeholders.

Job Requirements

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:

BSc in Climate Change, Disaster Risk Management, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Forestry or Other Related Natural Science Fields.

More than 2 years of experience in dry land farming, climate change adaptation, disaster risk management, environmental sustainability and similar areas of work.

Other Competencies/Attributes:

Effective in written and verbal communication in English

Fluency in Local Language is required as the position needs direct communication and interaction with local community.

Exposure to food aid programs in the country, knowledge of lotus, Excel, MS Word and MS Access, PowerPoint is added advantage.

Experience of working on early warning system, and disaster risk assessments.

Experience of working in NGO environment in a rural setting.

Experience of working with government office and knowledge of government capacity gap areas.

Experience of working on PSNP and emergency response programs is an added advantage.

Working Environment / Conditions:

The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 90% of the time.

Duration of the contract: Up to Sept 30, 2021
