*this position is open only to Rwandan, Kenyan, or Malawian natives who would be able to work near any of the following WR field offices: Kigali, Nairobi, or Lilongwe

Position Summary:

  • As a member of a cross-sectoral programming advisory team, this role’s primary function is to support World Relief’s country offices in ensuring the integration of a Gender and Social Inclusion approach within WR programming.

  • The position supports a wide ranging portfolio of private and publicly funded projects and programs in both humanitarian and development contexts.

  • Primary responsibilities include: program advisory support to projects, development of global guidance and tools to streamline program implementation, capacity building of country office staff, program monitoring and evaluation (M&E), and proposal development. This position is only open to candidates currently based and able to work in Kenya, Rwanda or Malawi.

    Essential Functions:

  • Provide technical support to country offices in areas of gender & social inclusion assessments, program planning and design, gender analysis, gender sensitive monitoring and evaluation, capacity building, and quality assurance.

  • Monitor the progress of gender & social inclusion project activities in assigned portfolio and maintain regular contact with field staff by Skype, phone and e-mail to ensure country teams are well-oriented to monitoring and evaluation frameworks and technical reporting requirements.

  • Grow WR’s gender portfolio through the development of high quality concept notes and proposals by co-designing approaches with field teams, writing pertinent technical sections and developing appropriate theory of change, logframes and indicators.

  • Act as global technical lead for supporting implementation and continued growth of World Relief’s couple strengthening model Families for Life

  • Work closely with global gender focal point team in moving forward key organizational gender initiatives and equipping country level gender focal points.

  • Carry out field visits to country offices for training, program monitoring and evaluation, quality improvement and partner development and collaboration.

  • Prepare timely technical reports on project progress and evaluations for internal and external audiences, including donor reports.

  • Develop gender & social inclusion programming guidance and tools (including capacity building strategies, curricula, and M&E tools) in collaboration with other sectoral teams to help country office staff design and implement context-specific projects.

  • Stay abreast of current literature and innovations within the Gender & Social Inclusion field to incorporate into staff capacity building, new projects and scaling up of best practices.

  • Network and represent World Relief Gender & Social Inclusion work to partners, donors, governments and community leaders and address professional conferences and technical forums through abstracts, program presentations, publications, and advocacy.

  • Any other duties as requested by supervisor.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • A relationship with Jesus Christ that serves as the primary motivator and guide in your professional career and clearly informs your perspective in understanding of issues related to the work of World Relief.

  • Demonstrated technical expertise in integration of gender and social inclusion approaches in programming with specific experience in at least one of the following areas (Gender Mainstreaming, Gender Based Violence Prevention, Male Engagement, Social Norm Change, and Disability Inclusion) and willingness to deepen technical knowledge in other areas. Familiarity with specific FAO, USAID, and UNICEF requirements and standard tools for gender and social inclusion a plus.

  • Proven experience with engaging faith communities on gender.

  • Proven experience in program design and proposal development evidenced by successful grant awards.

  • Demonstrated experience in monitoring and evaluation for gender programs utilizing quantitative and qualitative methodology, including development of indicators, log frames, assessment tools and surveys.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities.

  • Strong facilitation skills and proven experience providing capacity building for adults, including developing and conducting training on GESI approaches and GESI integration.

  • Strong English writing and oral presentation skills demonstrated by experience with successful donor reports and abstract presentations.

  • Must be able to establish strong relationships cross culturally.

  • Master’s Degree in International Development, Gender/Women’s Studies, Social Work, Public Health, Anthropology, or an advanced degree in a related field.

  • At least 10 years of experience working in international development in technical assistance type roles preferred with a minimum of 5 years practical experience working specifically in gender and social inclusion.

  • Ability and willingness to travel to program countries for up to 20% of time.
