Woodcreek School Sound, Light and Electrical Technician Jobs in Kenya; The Sound, Light and Electrical Technician at Woodcreek School is a multifaceted role responsible for overseeing all school electrical work. This includes performing maintenance, repairs, and installation support on electrical wiring, lighting systems, electronic equipment, and general maintenance to ensure reliability, proper functionality, and safe use of equipment and areas. Additionally, the role encompasses
all technical aspects of the school’s theatre productions and events, including stage management,
lighting, sound, and general theater operations. The individual in this role will ensure the smooth running of all performances, manage technical equipment, and provide a safe and efficient working environment.


Specific Responsibilities – Electrician

1. Takes up all electrical repair and maintenance works that are within your capability. Reports any
major electrical repair work that need external expertise to the supervisor as soon as possible to
avoid major loss to the institution’s equipment’s/assets or hazards to learners and staff.

2. Continually moves around the whole institution checking any repair works that need to be attended
to which can cause any hazards due to loose electrical connections, wear and tear or damages that might pause huge risk to occupants in a certain office, classroom or any other space within the institution. Inspects control panels, circuit breakers, and other electrical components.

3. Maintains a clear record of all maintenance repair works attended to and forwards a monthly report
to the supervisor. Develops and maintains records related to electronic and electrical equipment.

4. Prepares a budget and forwards any repair materials needed through the Principals office.

5. Assess risks to mitigate potential consequences of incidents and develop a plan to respond to
incidents. Perform effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair or
substitute damaged units. Reports potentially dangerous electrical equipment to supervisor and
takes steps to resolve the issue.

6. Communicates and updates school community regarding electrical/ electronic maintenance
schedules that has the potential to affect the normal school operations through the Principals office.
Works closely with the School Principal for any planned electronic maintenance schedule in the
theater to ensure it does not distress any school schedules.

7. Acquaint yourself with school’s technical diagrams and blueprint of all buildings within the school to
ensure ease in delivering any maintenance or repair works.

8. Executes plans of electrical wiring for well functioning lighting, intercom and other electrical systems in the theatre or any other space within the school.

9. Assists with Installallation of any electrical apparatus, fixtures and equipment as may be needed.
10. Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance and servicing of equipment.

11. Performs equipment demonstrations and prepares training manuals as may be needed.

12. Forwards materials or replacement needs and a logical method for repair; takes appropriate action
to meet those needs and makes repairs.

13. Manages and installs cables and wiring, splicing as needed.

14. Undertakes any plumbing works in liaison with the facility supervisor.

15. Undertakes any minor paint works as may be necessary

16. Undertakes minor carpentry and furniture fastenings as may be required in liaison with the facilities
supervisor.

17. Maintaining good knowledge of heating and air conditioning systems as well as various testing
equipment.

18. Strictly adhere to and observe occupational health and safety rules and regulations,

19. Performs any other duty as may be assigned from time to time by the seniors.



Specific Key Responsibilities - Theatre Operations, and
Technical Manager


1. Electrical Maintenance and Safety:

• Perform routine electrical maintenance, including inspections, repairs, and installations of
lighting and sound systems.

• Ensure all electrical systems within the theater meet safety standards and are in good
working order.

• Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues promptly to minimize disruption to theater
operations.

• Maintain and update electrical schematics and documentation.

2. Theater Operations Management:

• Oversee the daily operations of the theater, ensuring all technical aspects are functioning
correctly.

• Coordinate with production teams, directors, and designers to meet their technical needs
for rehearsals and performances.

• Schedule and supervise the use of theater spaces, ensuring efficient and effective use of
resources.

3. Technical Direction and Support:

• Provide technical direction for all theater productions, including lighting, sound, set design,
and special effects.

• Collaborate with directors and designers to achieve their creative vision while ensuring
technical feasibility and safety.

• Supervise and mentor students and staff involved in technical theater activities, providing
training and guidance as needed.

4. Equipment Management:

• Maintain an inventory of all technical equipment, including lighting fixtures, sound systems,
and other theater technologies.

• Ensure all equipment is properly stored, maintained, and in working condition.

• Coordinate the rental or purchase of additional equipment as needed for specific
productions or events.

5. Production Planning and Execution

• Participate in production meetings to discuss and plan technical requirements for upcoming
shows.

• Develop and implement production schedules, ensuring all technical elements are
completed on time.

• Oversee the setup, operation, and strike (dismantling) of all technical elements for each
production.

6. Health and Safety Compliance:

• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in all technical and theater
operations.

• Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments, addressing any hazards or
concerns promptly.

• Develop and enforce safety protocols for students and staff working in the theater.

7. Budget and Resource Management:

• Manage the budget for theater technical operations, ensuring cost-effective use of
resources.

• Prepare cost estimates for technical elements of productions and monitor spending to stay
within budget.

• Seek out and apply for grants or additional funding opportunities to support technical
theater needs.

8. Educational Support:

• Assist in the development and delivery of technical theater education programs for
students.

• Provide hands-on training and workshops in areas such as lighting design, sound
engineering, and stage management.

• Mentor students interested in pursuing careers in technical theater, providing guidance and
support.

9. Collaboration and Communication:

• Foster strong working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external partners.

• Communicate effectively with all stakeholders to ensure a clear understanding of technical
requirements and timelines.

• Serve as a liaison between the theater department and other school departments to
facilitate collaboration and support.
