Job Title:Environment Health and Safety Officer
West Kenya Sugar Company Limited is a leading sugar processing firm based in Kakamega County with outstation units in Busia and Bungoma counties respectively.
We produce the popular Kabras Premium White Sugar and Kabras Brown Sugar.
We have invested heavily in an ultra-modern, sugar processing plant located in Kakamega County and take great pride in growing our market share by producing exceptional sugar.
Over 60,000 small-scale sugar cane farmers are contracted by West Kenya Sugar Company Ltd to supply the factory with local sugar cane
We are offering an exciting employment opportunity as described in details below herein;
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Head of Human Resources in the Bungoma (Naitiri) Unit, the job holder will be responsible for developing and maintaining high standards of health and safety in the workplace to ensure employee wellness and legislative compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop for implementation, policies and programs to proactively promote safe working environment that complies with regulatory agencies and internal policies.
Monitor and ensure all employees, contractors and visitors comply with safety guidelines including PPE use.
Monitor and evaluate safety inspection programs, and carry out accident and incident investigation.
Coordinate implementation of Fire Safety and Emergency Response guidelines and policy.
Coordinate statutory environment and safety audits and monitor corrective actions on deficient findings.
Interface with external and regulatory agencies on Administrative issues especially in Implementation of the EMCA, Water Act, Energy Act, OSHA and WIBA legislations.
Constitute and Coordinate all Safety and Health Committee activities to ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements.
Oversee the operations of and prepare daily and periodical reports on the running of the Effluent treatment plant,
Housekeeping and solid waste management within the factory.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Environmental Science, occupational safety & health or related discipline.
3 – 5 years hands-on experience in handling Environment and Safety issues in a busy manufacturing industry.
Training in QMS, FSMS, EMS Firefighting and First Aid will be added advantage.
Expert knowledge of the OSHA, WIBA. EMCA and subsidiary legislations.
Effective communication skills, including written, verbal, and listening skills.
Organized planner, capable of prioritizing tasks and multitasking efficiently.
Team player that can adapt to a fast pace and changing environment
