Job PurposeThe Communications and Campaigns role is crucial function in Media, Public Communication, Documentation and Dissemination of WAU best WASH practices, key learning’s, research findings, to enhance visibility, amongst the development sector and other stakeholders (both governmental and NGO’s, civil society organizations and the donor community at large).
The role will support local and national campaigns and will be key to the delivery of quality communication and learning opportunities within WaterAid for staff and partners at all levels.
The role will help to devise, develop and deliver a comprehensive strategic and tactical plan for business development, income generation and awareness-raising for WAU.
It will also help to raise the organisation’s media profile by revising, defining and managing a communication strategy.
Responsibilities
• Develop and manage a dissemination plan for policy research outputs/products to
relevant decision-makers and donors to influence policy and practices change to
facilitate WASH service delivery to everyone countrywide sustainably.
• Ensure that the virtue resource centre is developed, plan for actively management in
place and contributes to the CP’s learning agenda.
• Support the designing and style of Country program reports (Annual, Bi Annual,
Quarterly) and editing all formal communication documents leaving WAU e.g. Donor
reports and funding proposals.
• Work as the focal point of contact of WAU within the media fraternity by developing
and maintaining positive and proactive relationships in order to support the work of
WaterAid and its partners.
• Carrying out participative planning activities in accordance with the partnership
contract plan. Undertake field visits to document/photo-document success stories of
partners.
• Support the development and capacity building of Communications & Learning skills,
policies and procedures of WaterAid staff and Partner Organizations (POs)
• Support the UK communications team to continuously update the WaterAid website
as required by the UK’ s communications team
Person Specification
Qualifications and Knowledge
• A Master’s Degree in communications or a relevant discipline
• Extensive experience in Communications, Campaigns or Media Advocacy related work areas.
• Extensive knowledge of campaigns and documentation in areas of development works.
• Is a proficient writer, with an insightful ability to tailor and deliver messages to multiple audiences and communication channels. They will seek to engage audiences, rather than “tell‟ them.
• Good understanding of national WASH related calendar, Sector-wide approaches, and functioning of government structures.
• Possesses good networking skills, takes initiative, can foresee potential challenges, opportunities and lead solutions.
• Excellent photography, writing and editing skills coupled with good interpersonal relations.
• Demonstrable experience in writing and publishing, community mobilisation and public speaking.
• Experience of working with partners.
• Proven experience of acting as an organizational spokesperson, experience of giving media interviews and briefings.
• Excellent Microsoft computer knowledge of packages like Desktop Publishing, Adobe, MS Word and Access
