Wash Advisor Employment Opportunities in South Sudan
About the role:This is a 24 month replacement role with unaccompanied terms based in El Geneina, capital of West Darfur State, with travel to other field locations in West Darfur, South Kordofan and West Kordofan States as required, approximately 20% in Geneina and 80% in the field. The salary is Grade 4 €35,981-€39,979.
You will report to the West Darfur Programme Director and directly line manage and mentor a national staff counterpart in West Darfur.
You will also liaise closely with Area Managers, MEAL Advisor, Health & Nutrition and Livelihoods Technical Advisors, and WASH project officers in all programme areas, as well as Kordofan Programme Director and Concern Head Office WASH Technical Advisors.
You will be responsible for:Take the lead role in the ongoing development of Concern Sudan’s WASH programming, including in the design of strategy for Sudan in general, and West Darfur and S&W Kordofan States specifically, working within the framework of the wider Resilience programme and in conjunction with health, nutrition and livelihoods sectors.
Provide technical guidance on all WASH projects in West Darfur and South & West Kordofan: ensure that minimum standards of technical quality are adhered to in all engineering activities and interventions, which are technically appropriate, realistic and on budget.
Ensure that a robust monitoring framework for all WASH interventions is implemented, including baseline data, secondary data, reviews, donor reporting, KABP survey and internal/external evaluations; actively monitor all identified WASH
indicators in programme documents and relevant standards, with support from Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator.
Contribute to the development of all WASH Programme projects in the form of draft project concept notes and draft proposals in collaboration with the Programme Directors and Field Coordinators.
Strengthen, and where necessary design and roll out continuous improvements in programme quality, including strategy and implementation for transition from humanitarian action to resilience and longer term development interventions.
Your skills and experience will include:
Relevant post degree level qualification in Engineering (Civil/Water/Environmental), Hydrogeology, Public Health or Environmental Resource Management
Minimum of three years overseas experience with an NGO implementing participatory Water and Sanitation programmes
Experience with Participatory Hygiene Promotion and Behaviour Change approaches
Experience in Drilling and the development of Rural Water Supplies
Familiarity with Sphere guidelines and knowledge of the Core Humanitarian Standard
Familiarity with humanitarian law and principles of humanitarian action (international code of conduct and humanitarian charter)
Demonstrable understanding of multi-sector Resilience programming
Excellent written and spoken English.
Experience in working with and capacity building of national staff and partner organisations
Desirable:
Qualification in Hygiene Promotion/Environmental Health.
Experience of work in Sudan / Horn of Africa region
Experience in working in a complex post-emergency or emergency context
Experience in Developing and Setting Up Monitoring and Evaluation Tools in hygiene promotion
Experience of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation
