Introduction

War Child is a child focused organisation that continuously enhances its services to children affected by war and conflict. This includes striving to work with a range of different stakeholders and able to mobilise and provide services and technical assistance within and outside the organisation, as well as across its programme teams in various programme locations in the country.

The main objective of the consultancy service is to provide technical assistance in the development and implementation of a meta-analysis and mapping of MHPSS interventions and approaches in South Sudan.

Following the completion of the meta-analysis, the consultant will lead the development of a MHPSS toolkit. The compiled MHPSS toolkit is envisaged to be adopted as a resource by communities, humanitarian actors and MHPSS stakeholders with the view of increasing accessibility of such services to children, caregivers and community at large.

Approach

  • This meta-analysis process will review the availability, implementation, and effectiveness of MHPSS interventions, methodologies and/or structured activities in South Sudan through a structured document review that is guided by agreed criteria such as the process of development, theoretical underpinning, duration of implementation and the availability of external or internal review reports and impact assessments reports. Additionally, this process will collect the views of individuals and groups who participated in the interventions, methodologies and/or structured activities about their experience, impact and recommendations. If outcome data is available also add the results to indicate impact on the individual mental health and psychosocial wellbeing

    Suggested steps:

  • Mapping MHPSS stakeholders operating in South Sudan

  • Request from them full details of interventions, methodologies and/or structured activities implemented as part of MHPSS response

  • Collaborate with a group of MHPSS actors to develop agreed criteria for reviewing the interventions, methodologies and/or structured activities.

  • Review the submitted documentation based on the agreed criteria

  • Collect the
    views of individuals and groups who participated in the interventions, methodologies and/or structured activities about their experience, impact and recommendations.

  • Developing a database to capture the information obtained through the review and qualitative interview process

  • Conduct an analysis of the database

  • Compile results and conclusions based on the strengthens and limitations of the database.

  • Development of the toolkit

  • Following the completion of the meta-analysis, the consultant will lead the development of a MHPSS toolkit. The compiled MHPSS toolkit is envisaged to be adopted as a resource by communities, humanitarian actors and MHPSS stakeholders with the view of increasing accessibility of such services to children, caregivers and community at large.

    Requirements

    Essential

  • Demonstrable experience and knowledge conducting reviews, assessments using qualitative and quantitative data gathering methods

  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of analysing qualitative and quantitative data sets

  • Masters level degree in psychology, mental health or related field

    Desirable

  • Minimum of 8 years professional experience preferably in similar contexts

  • Familiarity with South Sudan context and MHPSS sector

  • Strong experience on community engagement including in development of field data collection tools, data analysis and report writing

  • Strong facilitation and report writing skills.

  • Consultant has attended a personal security training before
