About us:
Walimu is a non-profit organisation whose overall goal is to improve care of hospitalised severely ill patients in Uganda.
Walimu is implementing the Africa Sepsis Research Collaboration (ARCS) cohort study in Uganda.
In Uganda ARCS aims to assess various aspects about sepsis among non-pregnant adults including epidemiology, Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), economic burden of hospital care among others.
Job Summary:
He/she will work with the study team in one of the partner sites to collect data on patients admitted to the health facility and to ensure that study procedures are carried out according to the study protocol and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
Key responsibilities Contributing to identification of eligible patients at the health facilities
Assisting the study nurse in providing required study information to potential subjects during the consent process
Administering study questionnaires to participants recruited into the study
Ensuring accuracy and completeness of data collected from study participants
Identifying patient problems, documenting pertinent information and assisting patients in formulating plans for addressing problem areas
Participating in follow-up of study participants during and after their hospital stay
Following and remaining knowledgeable about the study standard operating procedures
Attending study team meetings as requested by the study coordinator and the Principal Investigator (PI)
Maintaining research documents according to GCP requirements
Treating each participant with dignity, respect and understanding
Performing any other duties that may be reasonably necessary for carrying out the study protocol as directed by the project coordinator and/or Principal Investigator
Educational requirements and experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Medicine and surgery from a recognized university
Minimum of 1 year’s work experience in a clinical research setting
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Up-to-date registration with the Medical and Dental practitioners’ council
Human Research Subject Protection and GCP training is an added advantage
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
Excellent communication skills
Working use of Microsoft word, excel and the internet is essential
Good insight and good decision making in view of patient care needs
