Background:

VSF Germany is an international Non-Governmental Organization, providing humanitarian aid and development assistance to pastoralists and vulnerable communities in areas where livestock is of importance.

In the region, VSF Germany implements activities in South Sudan, Kenya, Somalia, Uganda and Ethiopia.With support in animal health, agriculture, marketing, food safety but also with developing the capacity of communities and governmental institutions or initiating peace and conflict resolution we work towards food security and strengthened livelihoods of pastoralist communities.

VSF Germany would like to recruit a Logistics Assistant to be based at the Regional Office in Nairobi but with travels to field offices on need basis.

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to the logistics function. Ensure transfer of VSFG staff from one location to another without delay and conflicting of schedules.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities:

    Transport and Staff Movements

  • Picking and Driving staff to and from meetings, Guest Houses and other assigned destinations.
  • Liaise with the project sites on projected staff movements
  • Filing of projected staff movements
  • Preparation & submission of weekly and monthly Vehicle log sheets and fuel summaries
  • Management of fuel and its consumption
  • Scheduling for vehicle maintenance and servicing
  • Ensuring general safety and cleanliness of the motor vehicles.

    Taxi

  • Request for taxis to pick and drop the staff at/from the airport, to/from the guest house, to/from meeting venues
  • Liaising with our offices at destination for picking up of staff
  • Analyzing the projected movements for the day/following day
  • Coordinate payment for taxis

    Other Duties

  • Picking and dropping of parcels to and from field project areas.
  • Receiving of delivered items
  • Dispatch of items
    Data entry in support of VSF G projects
    Packing of items
    delivered in readiness for dispatch
  • Preparation of waybills/packing list for items being dispatched to the field/RON
    Update projects on items dispatched/being dispatched
  • Tracking of waybills and packing list

    Qualifications

  • A Diploma in Logistics and Procurement.
    Trained and experienced in Defensive Driving.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional Driving experience within Nairobi and up country locations.
  • Good experience of Driving and exposure to long distance driving to the arid lands of Kenya.
  • 5 years Past experience of work with the humanitarian organizations.
  • Basic knowledge of computer packages.
  • Good interpersonal and Communication Skills in both English and Kiswahili languages.
  • Adaptability and flexibility: Ability to work out of normal working hours.
  • Ability to develop and keep work plans and work schedules with other departments as a whole.

    Other Requirements

  • A Valid and clean driving license.
  • A Valid Code of Good Conduct Certificate.
