Key information;
17 weeks in Kenya from May to September 2019
Full time, x 7 hours per day, x 5 days a week, flexible work to include evenings and weekend.
Flight, accommodation, Inoculation and Visa covered by VSO.
Must be available prior to departure for training residential’s
Role overview
We are looking for two fully qualified NRCPD registered, enthusiastic BSL interpreters, who are willing to work overseas on an amazing project with VSO. The interpreters will be working with a British Deaf Team Leader and 10 young Deaf volunteers from the UK, who will be volunteering on an inclusive education programme in Kenya for 17 weeks as part of the VSOs International Citizenship Service. They will be working with 10 young Deaf volunteers from Kenya, a Deaf team leader and two Kenyan sign language interpreters.
The role will involve providing accurate interpretation during work placement activities, training workshops, medical appointments, community meetings and any other activities required for ICS youth volunteers.
Skills, qualifications
and experience
The ideal candidate will be a fully qualified and experienced BSL interpreter with experience of working in groups and with young people.
You will be passionate about working with diverse groups in an empowering capacity and you will be flexible with an open attitude towards different cultures.
You will be able to develop a strong relationships with individuals and teams across the organisation.
