Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director in charge of Climate Change, the Climate Change Coordination Officer I shall: -

  • Provide analytical support and technical assistance to all climate change programmes, projects, and activities in the county;

  • Monitor and evaluate implementation of climate change projects and programmes and providing updates and performance measurements;

  • Mainstream climate change mitigation and adaptation programmes into the County Integrated Development Planning (CIDP) processes;

  • Collaborate with relevant institutions on promoting innovation, research, technology development, and technology transfer on climate change adaptation and mitigation measures, programmes and projects;

  • Liaise with the Designated National Authority (DNA) and other relevant Authorities including the Ministry of Finance on matters pertaining to carbon markets and emissions trading schemes,

  • In collaboration with other agencies at the national and county government levels:- Identify low carbon development strategies and coordinate related measurement, reporting and verification,

  • Develop plans and strategies and coordinate related measurement, resilience to climate change, enhancing adaptive capacity and optimize the county’s opportunity to mobilize climate finance.

  • Reporting in County Communications requirements related to climate change mitigation actions,

  • Any other duty as may be assigned by the Supervising

    Requirements for Appointment

    The suitable candidate must meet the following requirements:-

  • Be a Kenyan citizen;

  • Should have served in the position of a Climate Change officer II or in a comparable position for a minimum period of three years

  • Should have a Bachelor’s degree in any one Climatology, Climate Change, Climate Change an Environmental Science / Studies, Meteorology, Climatology,
    Environmental Law, Environmental Planning and Management;

  • Environmental Engineering, Environmental Education, Natural Resource Sciences/Management, or any other relevant/Equivalent qualification from a recognized institution. A bias in Climatology, Climate Change will be an added advantage;

  • Should have a practical knowledge of teamwork and leadership, with an understanding of national and international policies, regulations and strategies on Environment and Climate Change;

  • Have a demonstrated knowledge in computer applications;

  • Have a demonstrated managerial, administrative, professional and technical competence;

  • Have excellent interpersonal skills, flexible to work for long hours under pressure so as to meet deadlines and ability to work with minimum or no supervision;

  • Have shown merit and ability as reflected in previous work performance and results;

  • Satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 on leadership and integrity.

  • Having a Master’s degree in related field or Post Graduate training in Environmental Management field such as EIA/Audits, Environmental Management Systems or any other equivalent will be an added advantage.
