    Are you UWC Kenya’s new Programme Manager?

  • UWC Kenya is seeking a motivated individual to work as the Programme Manager on a fixed one-year contract and support the implementation of a youth refugee engagement and scholarship programme in and around Kakuma Camp, which will benefit secondary school students from the refugee communities.

  • This programme will comprise a wide range of activities, including outreach to and engagement with young people in Kakuma Camp, and scholarships for refugee scholars
    to attend a UWC school from 2021 to 2024.

  • We are initially looking for the services for 12 months with the option of renewal, ideally starting in November 2020.

  • Based in Nairobi, the individual will work with the Chair of the UWC Kenya Committee in Nairobi and representatives of UWC International.

  • The Programme Manager will interact with other UWC entities on a regular basis as well as partner organisations such as UNHCR and Amala.

  • S/he will have the support of local coordination staff and the UWC alumni community in Kenya.

    Key Responsibilities

  • To have local oversight and coordinate the programme’s promotion across the camp, outreach campaigns and events, PR and liaison with local partners.

  • To manage the local programme budget
    Effective programme monitoring, evaluation and reporting

  • To ensure regular effective communication with external and internal stakeholders (i.e. UNHCR, Amala, UWC International, receiving UWC schools and colleges, local government officials and partner organisations in Kenya), identify and develop new local partnerships.

  • To facilitate the growth and development of UWC’s presence and networks in Kenya and East Africa.

  • Support the selected RISE-UWC students in preparation of the relevant documents required for admission in coordination with UWC Kenya National Committee and UNHCR

    Skills and Experience Required

    Essential

  • Minimum of BA in social sciences, humanities or related field

  • Significant experience in managing and supporting new programmes and young people (specifically those from adverse backgrounds).

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication, networking, organisational and presentation skills as well as diplomacy and tact.

  • Language proficiency in English

    Desirable

  • Knowledge of the Kenyan refugee legal system

  • Knowledge of the Kenyan education system

  • Knowledge of Swahili.

  • Ability to plan, budget and prepare financial reports

  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation of programmes
