Summary:The U.S. Mission in Uganda is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Senior Public Health Specialist (Immunizations).
The work schedule for this position is:
• Full Time, 40 hours per week
Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (4 weeks) following receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.
Duties:
Based at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) office at the U.S. Embassy in Kampala, Uganda, this position is a Senior Public Health Specialist (Immunization) responsible for directing the day-to-day program management of the Global Immunization Division (GID) portfolio through CDC Uganda and supporting immunization program activities led by the Government of Uganda.
In this role, the incumbent will provide comprehensive public health technical, administrative, and managerial advice and leadership in support of routine immunization activities provided under the Global Immunization Division (GID) at CDC-Uganda.
Responsibilities include directing the day-to-day program management of the Global Immunization Division (GID) portfolio, development, monitoring, and reporting of the CDC Uganda immunization activities in close collaboration with Government of Uganda’s National Expanded Programme on Immunization (UNEPI), related ministries, other immunization partners in Uganda, SMEs with CDC Uganda and CDC’s Global Immunization Division (GID) to ensure adherence to CDC’s Global Immunization Division strategic objectives and internationally recognized best practices.
The incumbent represents CDC Uganda on the topic of immunization at technical, policy and strategic planning meetings, including meetings with government officials, collaborators, the national multi-sector immunization task force, and immunization technical working groups, and donor agencies. Supervision is provided by the Country Director at CDC Uganda.
Qualifications and Evaluations
Education:
Doctoral level education in medicine, public health, epidemiology, or nursing is required.
Requirements:
Experience:
Five years’ experience working with the MOH, or other public health programs and a familiarity with USG agencies or international organizations, including WHO, UNICEF, or international NGOs is required.
Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating public health programs and coordinating with international agencies or implementing partners is required.

LANGUAGE:
Fluent speaking/reading/writing English is required.
Skills and Abilities:
Strong program management skills, the ability to think strategically about program approach and goals and to independently develop formal proposals, protocols, meeting summaries and briefing documents is necessary is required.
Good time and personal managerial skills are required to operate independently with limited direct supervision of day-to-day activities as well as to participate in, results-driven project teams and workgroups with a diverse array of members.
Strong skills in the design and interpretation of results from program monitoring and evaluation are required, including the ability to understand and synthesize numerical data is required.
Must be conversant with survey design and questionnaire development, and familiarity with electronic data collection platforms (e.g., RedCap).
Demonstrated ability to use quantitative data management programs, such as Epi Info, SPSS, or equivalent data analysis software is required.
Standard knowledge of word processing software, email programs, basic knowledge of numerical, keyboard/data entry and basic knowledge of IT hardware and software is required. Incumbent must be able to use of at least one of the more common epidemiologic data analysis software (EPINFO, STATA, SAS, or SPSS) for statistical analysis, data visualization and inference.
Qualifications:

Important:
Applicants who claim status as a preference-eligible U.S. Veteran must submit a copy of their most recent DD-214 (“Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty”), equivalent documentation, or certification.
A “certification” is any written document from the armed forces that certifies the service member is expected to be discharged or released from active-duty service in the armed forces under honorable conditions within 120 days after the certification is submitted by the applicant.
The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service. Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.
