Duties

  • Use the content from Section 13 of PD to develop the language for the duties. Post should avoid using acronyms or language that is heavily USG related. The information should be clear and easy to understand.

  • The incumbent serves as the Mission’s Radio Technician, responsible for installation, maintenance, and upgrade of the unclassified UHF and HF radio networks, cabling, and related equipment that is under the care of the Information Resource Management (IRM) office. Incumbent will liaise with and assist the visiting radio technicians who are responsible for the Diplomatic Security-controlled radios in the Tactical Operations Center (TOC) and DS vehicles.

  • Ensures all security guidelines and other procedures are implemented and followed for correct operation of post radio system to ensure the emergency and administrative radio networks are always fully functional.

  • Responsible for programming, installation and maintenance of hand-held radios, mobile radios, base stations, and repeaters providing daily, weekly, monthly, and annual tasks for maintenance for all radio networks and equipment.

  • Fully familiar with radio testing equipment such as radio analyzers, frequency generators, spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope, multimeter and specialized proprietary PC based programming software for radio frequencies, DPL, PL, ID Call for the various radio providers.

  • Incumbent will test and monitor electrical circuits, wiring, air conditioning units, and universal power supplies (UPSes) to ensure full functionality and 24/7 availability of all radio equipment.

  • Required to install and perform maintenance on numerous types of antennas to provide the best possible radio coverage. The incumbent must understand the latest radio operations and types of antennas and cabling that will provide the best service in a variety of different installations.

  • Liaise with security personnel for access to radio tower sites, to maintain, install, and repair post’s radio network hardware.

  • Coordinates requests for quotes, billing, and records of all radios at post, to include annual inventory and tracking in the Loanable Property and Asset Management modules of the Integrated Logistics Management System (ILMS)

  • Responds to trouble tickets submitted by users for radio issues in the MyServices ticketing system.

    Satellite Communication Systems Support

  • The incumbent is responsible for the installation, programming, maintenance, repair, upgrading and monthly/quarterly testing of post’s SatCom equipment (satellite telephones and satellite-based portable Basic Internet Connectivity (BIC) kits), along with all accessories and associated equipment, to include the external antennas and cradles in the three
    RC safe havens.

  • Incumbent will test and monitor electrical circuits, wiring, air conditioning units, and universal power supplies (UPSes) in all three safe havens on the Residence Compound (RC) to ensure full functionality and 24/7 availability of all Sitcoms equipment. Ensures all security guidelines and other procedures are implemented and followed for correct operation of post SatCom systems to ensure the equipment is always fully functional. Coordinates requests for quotes, billing, and records of all SatCom equipment at post, to include annual inventory and tracking in the ILMS database.

  • Responds to trouble tickets submitted by users for SatCom issues in the MyServices ticketing system. Manages the inventory of SIM cards for SatCom equipment and liaises with vendor and post Management to ensure all satellite calling and data plans are up to date and operational.

    Qualifications and Evaluations

    Experience:

  • Three years of experience working in electronics, telecommunications, and/or network engineering is required.

    Job Knowledge: Optional:

  • This is not required, but if used, derive from Section 15e of PD. The more information post adds to this field, the more in depth the qualification process becomes. HR will be required to qualify applicants from all information that is added.

    Education Requirements:

  • Two years of college/university studies in Electronics, Telecommunications, or Information Technology Systems is required

    Evaluations:

    Post may choose to add the phrase “This may be tested” after a language, skill, and/or ability. Review the VA template for specific information.

    Language:

  • English Level 3 - Good working knowledge; speaking, reading & writing is required.

    Skills and Abilities Optional:

  • This is not required, but if used, derive from Section 15(f) of PD. These must be specific and clearly worded. The information added here will be used to qualify the applicants during the recruitment process.
