DutiesThe Computer Management Specialist is the systems manager for all of the Sensitive But Unclassified (SBU) systems at the U.S. Consulate General in Johannesburg including over 10 servers and more than 180 workstations. The position is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating all financial, material, programs, organization, and human resources associated with the Consulate General's network.
His/her duties include systems administration, supervision of three other systems personnel, training of subordinates and users, supports the OpenNet LAN and Internet networks at the consulate, ensures that video conferencing equipment is functioning and helps to coordinate calls. This position reports directly to the Information Systems Officer.
Qualifications and EvaluationsExperience:
A minimum of five (5) years progressively responsible network administration experience in a Microsoft Windows Server environment is required. This should include installation, configuration, upgrades, and programming of network systems/infrastructure.
Must have six months supervisory experience.
In the absence of a bachelor's degree:
Completion of secondary school is required.
Plus eight (8) years progressively responsible network administration experience in Microsoft Windows Server environment is required.
The experience should include installation, configuration, upgrades, and programming of network systems/infrastructure.
Education Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology is required.
CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft Certified Professional are required, duration to complete is 12 months.

English: Level 4 - Fluent; written/spoken, including
the ability to translate (This may be tested)
Skills & Abilities:
The job holder must have knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of computer and network equipment installed at post and working knowledge of applicable networking systems and methods, telecommunications, and operations.
Must be able to work accurately and efficiently with minimal supervision.
Be able to communicate effectively in English and be comfortable dealing with written and verbal communication.
Must be adept at instructing users in the use of all systems in the environment at Post. Must have accurate keyboard/typing skills.
Basic supervisory skills needed.
Must be skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suites, and/or regular use of any proprietary software.
Numerical skills are required in order to budget the cost of equipment and needs for the office.
