Duties
Basic Function of PositionJob holder is responsible for operating the official passenger vehicle to transport the Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) throughout Malawi.
Keeps vehicle in a clean and serviceable condition and performs minor preventative maintenance.
Will serve as special messenger in delivering documents or invitations, or in carrying out various other important errands for the Front Office.
Job holder will function as a pool chauffeur for Department of State (DOS) employees to official government and other official meetings when DCM does not require assistance. Job holder reports to the Deputy Chief of Mission's Office Management Specialist (DCM/OMS).
Job holder may provide back up to the Ambassador's chauffeurs as needed.
Qualifications and Evaluations
Requirements:
Experience:
One years prior experience as a chauffeur for a head of diplomatic mission, company president, or other VIP is required.
Job Knowledge:
Must be familiar with local traffic laws and traffic patterns. Must be familiar with the locations of host government offices, other embassies and official residences that will be visited by the Ambassador.
Must have basic knowledge of local government protocol practices and procedures.
Must have good knowledge of the expediting process necessary for international travel.
Must be able to quickly learn and understand the driver's section of the SHEM and Protocol Handbook.
Education Requirements:
Completion of primary school required. Secondary education desirable.
Chauffeur certificate
Drivers License
Defensive Driving Certificate
Evaluations:
Language:
Level III English (good working knowledge, Speaking/Reading/Writing) is required.
Level II (Limited-Reading/Speaking/Writing) Chichewa is required.
Skills and Abilities:
Must have excellent driving skills and have the ability to identify alternate routings during traffic congestions.
Must be able to maintain a pleasant demeanor and provide courteous assistance to official passengers embarking and disembarking vehicle.
Must have a valid driver license certified by the relevant local issuing authority.
Must be able to perform minor preventive maintenance or repair of vehicles. Must have basic keyboard skills.
Must have basic computer skills and ability learn USG software such ILMS.
