Duties

Basic Function of the Position

The Travel and Transportation Supervisor is responsible for management and supervision of the travel section and all related functions for U.S. Mission Somalia, which has personnel in both Somalia and Kenya.

Serves as the subject matter expert (SME) on travel policies and ensures excellent service to Mission personnel. Also directs and supervises shipping to/from Mogadishu and is expert on shipping and customs regulations and practices. Supervised by Deputy Management Officer. Periodic travel to Mogadishu may be required.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Experience:

A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in shipping, customs, travel, transportation, or logistics is required.

Job Knowledge:

The job holder must have a thorough working knowledge of Nairobi and Kenya hotel accommodations. The job holder must be able to use the normal range of office equipment.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Logistics Management, Hospitality Management, International Relations, or Travel/Tourism is required.

Evaluations:

Language:

Level IV English (Fluency, reading/speaking/writing) (This may be tested) is required.

Level

III Kiswahili (Good Working Knowledge, speaking/reading/writing) is required.

Skills and Abilities:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with clients, counterparts at Embassy Nairobi, and travel industry personnel at hotels, airlines, shipping companies, government offices, etc.

Good customer service skills are required.

Must have strong computer skills necessary to fully use software required for the position (MS Word, Excel, in-house programs, etc.).

Typing skills are required (40 words per minute).
