Duties
The incumbent serves as one of two Visa Team Leads in U.S. Consulate Johannesburg's consular section. Incumbent reports directly to the Visa Unit Supervisor.
The incumbent provides work guidance to six Visa Assistants in the Visa Unit and rotates every 12 months with the other Team Lead between the Immigrant Visa (IV) and Nonimmigrant Visa (NIV) units.
Directs workflow, applies advanced knowledge of U.S. immigration law and regulations, brings complex cases of U.S. national interest to the attention of consular managers, and provides training and guidance to Locally Employed Staff in their units.
Requirements
Experience
Minimum of three years experience in an administrative or management position, other related work in the consular or immigration field, or similar work involving working with customers and the application of relatively complex regulatory or legal material is required.
Job Knowledge
Familiarity with office and workload management concepts is required.
Advanced command of U.S. immigration law and policy and consular processes required.
Advanced knowledge of post-specific internal operating procedures is required.
Advanced ability to use consular resources to find answers to regulatory and policy queries.
Education Requirements
Successful completion of secondary school is required.
Evaluations
Language
Level 4 (Fluent) Speaking/ Reading/ Writing of English is required.
Level 3 (Good Working Knowledge) Speaking/ Reading/ Writing of one additional South African official language is required.
Skills and Abilities
Superior organizational and workload management skills.
Superior leadership skills.
Good customer service skills are required as the incumbent must interact with the public on a daily basis with tact, patience and discretion and be able to apply and explain complex regulatory and legal material using simple language.
Adherence to the highest ethical standards.
Proficiency in Microsoft Suites.
Keyboard skills that include speed and accuracy.

Important
Applicants who claim status as a preference-eligible U.S. Veteran must submit a copy of their most recent DD-214 (“Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty”), Letter from Veterans’ Affairs which indicates the present existence of a service-connected disability dated within the past six months, equivalent documentation, or certification.
A “certification” is any written document from the armed forces that certifies the service member is expected to be discharged or released from active duty service in the armed forces under honorable conditions within 120 days after the certification is submitted by the applicant.
The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service.
Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.
This level of preference applies to all Foreign Service employees on LWOP and CS with re-employment rights back to their agency or bureau.
