URI Senior Communications Specialist Jobs in Ghana
The University of Rhode Island is seeking candidates for Senior Communications Specialist for an anticipated fisheries project funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in Ghana.
This is a local hire recruitment (i.e., recruited in Ghana and based in Ghana). Any nationality is eligible to apply under these conditions if the candidate has, or can obtain, legal status to work in Ghana.
The position will be a personal services contract and not a staff position with the University of Rhode Island. URI is an equal opportunity employer committed to the principles of affirmative action.
Key Responsibilities
Lead development and manage implementation of a communications strategy and plan for the project, including Social Behavior Change Communication Campaign design, implementation, monitoring and impact evaluation. Tasks include but are not limited to:
Develop content for success stories, fact sheets, press releases, newsletters, flyers, posters, videos, and other information, education and communications material
Develop communications messages for diverse target audiences.
Develop meeting and workshop material, such as concept notes, speeches, program agenda, planning checklists, correspondence, etc.
Review content, copy editing, formatting, finalization, posting and archiving of documents in accordance with USAID and project requirements and provide assistance as needed.
Assist the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Specialist in reviewing reports
Work with project partners and sub-awardees to develop and implement project communications plans at their level and to build their capacity in quality communications.
Establish effective working relationships and an efficient process for preparing, submitting and obtaining USAID and Government of Ghana approval for all communications products and events as appropriate, in a timely manner in accordance with requirements
Initiate and sustain good relationships
with a diverse group of stakeholders including fishers, government officials and academia.
Assist the Monitoring Evaluation and Learning Specialist with the evaluation of the impact of project communication activities, propose corrective measures and update strategies and plans as may be required.
Manage and ensure quality deliverables form communications service providers.
Manage a communications budget.
Supervise staff or interns as assigned by the Chief of Party.
Any other responsibility assigned by the Chief of Party.
Qualifications and Experience
A minimum of a Master’s degree in Communications, Social Sciences or other relevant field.
A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in design and implementation of communications programs for internationally funded projects.
Experience with USAID marking and branding protocols
Skills/Competencies Required
Demonstrated skills and experience in content development for a diversity of communications platforms and audiences.
Demonstrated competency in digital communications platforms including social media and proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite of software.
Demonstrated high level competency in writing and editing of professional technical reports and other written products in English.
Excellent analytical and creative writing skills.
Demonstrated experience in both managing and coordinating with teams working on several major activities simultaneously to deliver quality work on tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
Demonstrated ability to engage journalists and media houses.
Flexibility and willingness to undertake a wide variety of non- routine tasks and assignments including travel within Ghana at short notice.
