The Position
We are looking for a Director of Programs who will be responsible for the overall management of
the Programs undertaken by the Trust. This position is a part of the key senior leadership positions in Uraia. In this regard, the leadership style should reflect high Emotional Intelligence (EI) as well as an ability to lead while nurturing talent. The individual will be committed to shaping the future growth and success of the Trust.
Key responsibilities include program design, including innovation and creativity in developing new programs and in identifying partners; coordinating partners; liaising with donors; supervising program managers; overseeing program implementation, financial and administrative oversight, reporting, monitoring and evaluation; and instituting a strong learning and growth culture in the Trust.
Key Responsibilities
Provide leadership, guidance, and supervision of program managers to ensure efficient, effective
and timely implementation of Uraia Trust projects; and to keep senior management informed on
progress.
Provides integrated direction and management in the administrative and organizational planning,
and budgeting, of major Uraia projects impacting multiple, strategic core functions and
components of Uraia Trust.
Oversee the development of regular progress updates of the Trust during the organizational
meetings.
Program Management, Leadership, and Administration
Provides strategic leadership and technical, operational, financial, and managerial leadership
for the successful implementation of Uraia projects and activities.
Coordinate and facilitate the resource mobilisation process through the development of
proposals, networking and liaising with key donors, partners and development agencies.
Ensures that the Trust is technically sound, evidence-based, and consistent with funder and
stakeholders’ priorities.
Provides oversight of program implementation including all activities, outputs, and outcomes
related to project management and administration, including reporting, budget development and monitoring, financial transactions, execution of Uraia’s plans, and performance.
Ensures Uraia projects and initiatives produce the specified results in the Strategic Plan 2021-2025, annual work plan(s) to the required standard of quality and within the timeline and budget parameters.
Oversees budget development and budget monitoring.
Conducts monthly reviews to ensure accountability of all Uraia programs activities as well as the accurate and timely reporting of financial deliverables and obligations.
Ensures that the project progresses by its contractual obligations and complies with donor
regulations and internal organizational policies.
Technical Leadership
Supports the Executive Director by advising on program management, organizational development, capacity building, and collaboration among Government, partners, and relevant stakeholders.
Establishes
and manages a team with all the relevant disciplines and operational staff, including team building.
Develops a detailed implementation plan in line with the agreed scope and resources.
Oversees development of a monitoring and evaluation plan for Uraia’s projects to capture project performance and results.
Representation
Acts as the primary project contact person and liaison, ensuring the Trust is represented in
relevant national technical, policy, and planning forums with key stakeholders.
Coordinates organizational relationships with partners and donors related to monitoring and
evaluation, providing support in facilitating technical collaboration and coordination activities with Government, partners, and relevant stakeholders.
Works closely with donors to ensure compliance with programmatic targets and deliverables.
Promotes the Trust through advocacy, presentations, and participation in the country, regional, and international technical forums.
Human Resource
Oversees the selection and training of qualified Uraia staff, assigning clear roles and
responsibilities, providing effective supervision, and managing performance to ensure efficient
operations.
Coaching and mentoring of staff within the team to ensure continuous growth and motivation
Undertake performance appraisals for the program managers and support their learning and
growth by providing regular feedback.
Ensure open and effective communication between the program managers and other internal
and external stakeholders.

Qualifications
Advanced degree (minimum Master's degree) in International Development, social sciences, or a
related field from an accredited University.
Have at least ten (10) years of experience in a leadership position managing in a related field (civic education, democracy, development, governance) in an I/NGO or a large organization.
Demonstrable experience and understanding of programming issues, project management, and
policy work.
Organizational, planning, and coordination skills, ability to determine priorities, and attention to detail.
Experienced in monitoring and overseeing large budgets and taking strategic decisions on the most cost-effective solutions for project implementation.
Able to work independently to find innovative ways of solving problems.
Communication skills with a proven ability to explain complex issues clearly.
Ability to share knowledge with colleagues and a respectful team builder.
Work in a multi-sectoral/multicultural team with multiple stakeholders (government authorities, beneficiaries, implementing partners, program staff, development partners) with patience, cultural sensitivity, and the application of contextual understanding in day-to-day work.
Ability to work with tight deadlines to supervise report writing/information needs.
High emotional intelligence, people management, and interpersonal skills.
Willingness to travel to the field as and when needed.
