Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is a vibrant, diverse and dynamic university, rooted in the African continent with an increasing global reach. UWC actively responds in critical and creative ways to the development needs of the country, within an ever-changing and challenging global context.
The role of the Human Resources Department is to support the University’s People Strategy which presents challenging people deliverables in relation to change and transformation projects and strategies. Transformational leadership is required from all at the University, and the role of HR is both to enable and facilitate processes for continuous improvement.
Reporting to the Manager: Employee Relations the successful candidate appointed as Coordinator: Employee Wellness will be responsible for planning, designing, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive Wellness Program for the employees of the UWC with a balanced emphasis (e.g. fitness, nutrition, physical health and mental/emotional health) that meets the needs of our employees.
Duties will include inter alia:
Coordinating, planning, marketing, and executing wellness initiatives and programs
Co-ordination of wellness communication & information
Monitor program budget and assure appropriate expenditure of funds with detailed record-keeping and reporting to all funding sources
Coordinating intervention programs
Administration and general inquiries relating to wellness and employee relations
Coordinating a comprehensive wellness program
Coordinating the University's Wellness Strategy initiatives
Plans programs that will coincide with other wellness initiatives on and off-campus
Develop and arrange activities that will promote healthy lifestyles
Responsible for gathering and analyzing monthly data to measure program success on wellness initiatives and compiling an annual comprehensive report that outlines the financial impact of the wellness program.
Establish multiple criteria, procedures, and instruments for assessing program effectiveness to employees, such as developing and disseminating an annual employee survey
Liaise with external service providers
Assist in writing, reporting, and managing grants and seeking out donations to support the employee wellness financial expenditures.
Keep abreast of current national wellness initiatives and activities; develop a network of resources and contacts to further expand the Employee Wellness Program.
Explore ideas and opportunities to personalize programs to increase employee participation.
Maintain accurate records using computer technology.
Minimum Requirements
For the portfolio of Coordinator: Employee Wellness, you will be equipped with the following qualifications and attributes:
Matric/Grade 12 qualification
A Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Psychology, Social Science, Psychology, Human Resources or related qualification
5 years or more experience in a similar or related role
The following would be advantageous:
Experience in a Higher Education environment as well as Advanced Digitisation Skills.

Relationship Management and Stakeholder Engagement Skills.
Sound report writing skills.
Research and Networking skill.
