In addition to negotiating research contracts entered into with our wide variety of funders, RC&I fulfills the role of a “Technology Transfer Office” managing Intellectual Property (IP), maturing technologies and ultimately commercialising IP through licensing or spin-off company creation (innovation).
We invite applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons for this permanent post in our Innovation Services team. This position will suit a person who is energetic and outgoing, a strong communicator and who strives to provide efficient, friendly service to stakeholders and the team.
RC&I manages several different seed and investment funds that support UCT’s innovation activities. The Innovation Project Coordinator role involves managing the call / application and review processes, ensuring that documents are
complete and made available in advance of meetings.
If funds are awarded regular progress reports need to be collected, reviewed and a summary report prepared across all active projects, highlighting any risks and concerns to the various managers / committees.
Working with the Innovation Commercialisation / Investment Managers, the Innovation Projects Coordinator provides project management oversight of projects that are awarded innovation funding so that they are delivered on time, brief and budget.
The Innovation Project Coordinator (IPC) will act as the first point of contact for Principal
Investigators/Project Leads for trouble shooting, he/she will coordinate the funding calls, route submissions for screening, record outcomes of reviews and award of funding and provide feedback to all applicants regarding the outcome of their applications.
The IPC will also collate summary reports overviewing the progress of projects
related to a specific fund, as well as the financial status of the fund and funded projects.
The IPC will schedule meetings for funding review panels, liaise with external funders (e.g. the University Technology Fund) and provide other support as required by the Innovation Investment Manager or Innovation Commercialisation Managers, including preparing meeting minutes where required.
Requirements:
• NQF 6 in Business Administration or equivalent.
• 3 years’ relevant work experience ideally in a project management environment.
• Report writing, excellent verbal and written skills (English).
• Ability to review finances against budgets (Excel).
• Good record management and planning capabilities.
• Good interpersonal skills – capable of interacting with people from different industries as well as project and information management.
