As a member of the d-school team, the Building and Facilities Manager will be responsible for managing the dschool’s building and facilities under the leadership and guidance of the Head of Shared Services. In addition, you
will ensure that it is well maintained and retains its six-star grading. This is a 5-year full-time contract position,and the incumbent will work closely with the d-school senior management team and report directly to the d-school Head of Shared Services.
Requirements:
● NQF6 level qualification e.g. built environment, engineering, architecture, construction management
● 6 years’ recent and relevant experience in facilities and building management with exposure to a Green Star certified building.
● Demonstrated experience in ensuring occupational health and safety in the workplace.
● Demonstrated experience in managing contractors and sub-contractors.
● Demonstrated experience in project management and attention to detail.
● Excellent interpersonal skills (good oral and written communication skills).
● Ability to respond under pressure to emergency situations
● Demonstrate ability to understand technology and adapt it in the workplace.
● Proven computer literacy high level of proficiency in MS Office suite.
● Proven analytical and problem-solving ability.
● Code EB drivers license.
● Medically fit experiencing no difficulty with walking, hearing, eyesight, climbing steps or entering confined spaces with no fear of heights
Advantageous:
● Experience in a 6 star Green Star certified building.
● Experience in working in a large corporate environment
Responsibilities:
● Responsible for managing and monitoring the operational plans to ensure the d-schools’ building, facilities and equipment are functioning and
in good order.
● Responsible for ensuring a prompt response for any emergencies. These may include lifts, security and fire alarms, plumbing, electrical, etc.
● Responsible for proactive and preventative maintenance on the building.
● Responsible for ensuring the building operates very efficiently and effectively as designed, in terms of energy and water consumption, waste recycling, indoor air quality and thermal comfort.
● Responsible for managing out tasked contractors
Draw up specifications, bill of quantities, cost estimates and procurement policies.
● Responsible for managing workplace plans to ensure the d-schools’ complies with the occupational health and safety act.
● Responsible for the effective functioning of the d-school security and access control system, and a rapid response is in place.
● Responsible for all d-school building projects and administration.
● Responsible for the management of external sub-contractors and communication with UCT property and services.
● Compile budget and provide feedback to the Director of D-school.
● Conducts regular audits of assets, building, plant and infrastructure.
● Attends regular safety meetings and report non- compliance.
● Take responsibility for students and visitors inductions.
