General InformationThe incumbent will find his/her own housing arrangements in Nairobi. Nairobi is a modern metropolitan city where most basic goods and services are available locally at reasonable cost. The city is at a high altitude, with sunny days and cooler nights.
There is a short rainy season before Christmas, and longer rains fall from March to May. November to February is generally warm. No need for central heating, however warm clothes are necessary during the rainy season.
There are several transportation options in
Nairobi, including taxis, buses, mini-buses, and mobile applications for transport. Public healthcare in Nairobi is generally subpar, but there are private healthcare options that are of better quality.
The city is widely connected through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and the smaller Wilson Airport.

The city is home to some 3,000 UN personnel
mainly attributed to the fact that it serves as the headquarters for both UN HABITAT and UNEP, and as the UN Regional Hub for the East and Horn of Africa region.
Security is an issue in Nairobi, with incidents
of car-jacking and theft not uncommon. Safety and security in Nairobi varies depending on different
neighborhoods, and it is important to become familiarized with safety recommendations for the city.
Telecommunication system in Nairobi is generally sufficient. Internet access is generally reliable. There are frequent power cuts, however most of the shared compounds have generators.

Organizational Context & Project Description
Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be as much about the effec-tiveness of
development co-operation as it will be about the scale and form such co-operation takes.
The SDG agenda is marked by solidarity participation and universality, with a fundamental shift expected in the development finance architecture.
The Government of Kenya, with support of the UN system, has therefore spearheaded the SDG
Partnership Platform. The Platform brings together partners from Government, Devel-opment Partners,
Private Sector, Civil Society, Philanthropy, Academia, and Faith-Based Organizations to create diverse SDG accelerator windows.
The Council of Governors is a leading force behind the SDG Partnership Platform agenda, and committed to contribute to its success.
Task description
Under the direct supervision of the Council of Governors (COG) Health Advisor, and in close consultation of the SDG Partnership Platform (SDGPP) PHC Window Coordinator, the UNV will support the COG in the following:
Provide coordination support to the CoG Health Committee
Organize and prepare for CoG Health Committee meetings with partners; manage information
and documentation to support the process from the preparation of draft materials to the compilation and production of final agendas and background materials.
Maintain and monitor a list of Committee partnership action items (i.e. correspondence, reports, agreements, etc.).
Provide coordination and capacity building for the Council of Governors participation in the SDG
Partnership Platform Primary Healthcare Window
Facilitate capacity building for CoG Health Committee members, based on identified needs, to
enhance members’ participation in the SDG Partnership Platform processes.
Conduct research of legislation, regulations, national and county policy and Health PPP best
practices to inform Public Private Dialogues between CoG Health Committee membership and
Private Sector.
Develop inventory of County Health PPP best and promising practices
Assist with special projects and initiatives relating to SDG Partnership Platform efforts, including
Required Degree Level Bachelor degree or equivalent
support to the organization of SDG Partnership Platform co-creation workshops, Health PPP
business modelling and financing workshops and.
Facilitate development and implementation of the CoG Health Committee private sector
partnership communications strategy
Coordinate and support development of CoG Health Committee concept notes and proposals
soliciting for support from external partners for the organization of conferences, workshop,
communication and other CoG Health Committee efforts;
Results/Expected Outputs
Monthly progress reports and a final report describing implementation status of the UNV annual
workplan and progress in
meeting its milestones and targets as per the roles and responsibilities
spelled out within this DOA.
The development of capacity through coaching, mentoring and formal on-the-job training, when
working with (including supervising) national staff or (non-) governmental counterparts, including
Implementing Partners (IPs);

Qualifications/Requirements
Education - Additional Comments
Degree in public health, or social science is required.
A specialization or master’s degree is an asset.

Experience Remark
At least 2 years of relevant working experience working in the health sector
Experience working with County Governments a distinct asset.
Experience in coordinating Government of Kenya processes an asset
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must possess strong problem resolution skills, critical thinking and interpersonal skills to help identify and resolve issues.
Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams
Meet the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Kenya Constitution

Conditions of Service:
The contract lasts for the period indicated above with possibility of extensions subject to availability of funding, operational necessity and satisfactory performance.
However, there is no expectation of renewal
of the assignment.
Travel to duty station (if applicable) and a Settling-In-Grant will be provided in the event the duty station is not within commuting distance from the place of recruitment.
The applicable Volunteer Living Allowance
is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities and normal cost of living expenses. Life, health and permanent disability insurance are included (health insurance for up to 3 dependents), as well as final repatriation (if applicable) and resettlement allowance for satisfactory service.
Furthermore, in non-family duty stations that belong to hardship categories D or E, as classified by the ICSC, a Well-Being Differential (WBD) on a monthly basis will be provided.

Supervision, induction and duty of care of UN Volunteers
UN Volunteers should be provided equal duty of care as extended to all host entity personnel. Host entity support to the UN Volunteer includes, but is not limited to:
Introductory briefings about the organisation and office-related context including security, emergency procedures, good cultural practice and orientation to the local environment;
Support with arrival administration including setting-up of bank accounts, residence permit applications and completion of other official processes as required by the host government or host entity;
