United Nations Office at Nairobi Intern - Infrastructure Management & Data Centre Operations Vacancy; This internship is based in the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON), Division of Administrative Services (DAS), Information and Communication Technology Service (ICTS),Infrustructure Management (IMS). The incumbent will report to the supervisor of the Infrustructure Management team.
Responsibilities • Contributing to the day-to-day operation of the UNON IMS Server and Backup.
• Contributing to managing IT infrastructure, including server maintenance and cloud resources.
• Contributing to monitoring, reporting, and optimizing data center performance for efficiency and compliance.
• Contributing to performing user account management, structured cabling installation, and network maintenance.
• Contributing to collecting, analyzing, and visualizing data to generate actionable insights.
• Contributing to AI and machine learning research while staying updated on industry trends.
• Contributing to the research, deployment, and optimization of Microsoft Copilot for IT automation and AI-driven workflows.
• Contributing to documenting processes, tracking configurations, and presenting weekly progress reports.
Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate school programme in information and communication technology or related area;
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of degree programme in information and communication technology or related area; or
(c) if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least three years of fulltime studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of an information and communication technology degree or related degree.
Preferred area of study: Candidates should be in the final year of a university degree (minimum bachelor's) or have completed
a degree in:
• Computer Science
• Information Technology
• Business Technology Management
• Data Science • Electrical & Computer Engineering
• Any related field with a focus on data analytics, IT infrastructure, or business technology.
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.EducationApplicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Familiarity with IT infrastructure, cloud computing, or network optimization is beneficial especially in projects related to IT support, server migration, or cloud technologies.
LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.
