United Nations Office at Nairobi Information Technology Assistant; The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the United Nations headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General. We support programme implementation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Resident Coordinator System (RCS) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UNHabitat) globally, as well as other United Nations offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, conference and information services (www.unon.org).

This post is located in the Nairobi duty station, within the Innovation and Business Solutions Unit of the Information and Communications Technology Service (ICTS) of the Division of Administrative Services in UNON. The incumbent reports to the Innovation and Business Solutions Lead.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

• Engages in the development, coding, testing, debugging, and rollout of new application systems, releases, modules, and features.


• Contributes to the development, testing, and upkeep of applications and visualizations adhering to established UN IT technology standards, programming languages, and tools.

• Aids in establishing and maintaining databases, and supports data collection initiatives, tools, and processes to enhance client office capabilities.

• Prepares technical and user documentation for applications and systems, along with training materials, and conducts technical presentations.

• Advocates for the adoption of low code / no code solutions by demonstrating their utility to raise awareness of available low code / no code products.

• Collaborates in the design and construction of applications using modern and emerging technologies, encompassing AI Bots and models.

• Undertakes additional assigned responsibilities as necessary.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in application development, data science, applied mathematics, information management, or related areas is required.

  • The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced by two (2) years for candidates who possess a first level University degree.

  • Experience in Office 365 and Microsoft’s Power Platform technologies (power apps, power automate and power BI) is required.

  • Experience in SharePoint Online is required.

  • Experience with data base tools Structured Query Language (SQL) Server is required.

  • Experience with cloud computing platforms and services such as Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS) is desirable.

  • Development experience in web-based technologies is desirable.

  • One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

    Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations
  • Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable. NOTE: "Fluency equals a rating of "fluent" in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and " Knowledge of equals a rating of' confident" in two of the four areas.
