United Nations Office at Nairobi Environmental Affairs Specialist Jobs in Kenya; The consultant will provide effective support in the implementation of relevant activities under the ACP MEA Phase III programme, securing their timely delivery.


Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Programme Management Officer in the Environmental Conventions and Policy Branch, the consultant will:

(i) Delivery of one capacity building workshop in the ACP-region

(ii) Delivery of one backstopping mission in the ACP region

(iii) Technical organization of Programme Steering Committee meeting for progress monitoring of the ACP MEA III programme.

(iv) Delivery of one programme event in the ACP region involving decision-makers and other stakeholders

(v) Preparation of analysis and report on ACP MEA III programme results and activities in relevant intergovernmental environmental meetings (e.g. Convention of Parties, intersessionals).


Qualifications or special skills

*An advanced university degree (master’s degree, or equivalent) in environmental conservation, environmental management, environmental policy or closely related field is required.

* A first-level degree (bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in the specified fields of studies with two (2) additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university.

• A minimum of five years of professional working experience
in environmental governance and environmental policy is required.

• Experience in implementation of biodiversity or chemicals and waste related Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) at national and international levels is desirable.

• Experience in managing or coordinating environmental projects is an asset.

• Experience working on projects of UNEP and /or European Development Fund would be an advantage.

• Professional working experience in multicultural teams, including with United Nations system organisations or other international organizations is required.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
