United Nations Programme Assistant Jobs in Kampala

Job Description

Under the overall guidance of the Deputy Representative, the Programme Assistant provides programme support services ensuring quality, accuracy and consistency of work. The programme Assistant works in close cooperation with other OHCHR staff to exchange information and to support programme delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Substantive support to the implementation of the OHCHR country programme through:
  • Assist in collection, analysis and reporting on human rights information
    Assist in designing monitoring tools, indicators and collecting data
    Participate with Human Rights Officers in discussions with relevant Uganda authorities, opposition groups, civil society and other stakeholders for the purpose of information-gathering, advocacy and capacity-building
    Record cases of human rights violations in the OHCHR database
  • Monitor trends of human rights violation on print and electronic media
    Support reporting activities on donor contributions
  • Contribute to regular report on activities
    Support specific OHCHR country programme activities relating to training and advocacy:
  • Responsible for the organization and administrative arrangements of training activities and workshops.
  • Identify, develop and prepare necessary information, advocacy and training materials.
    Records and archives Management
  • Provide advisory services to programme staff with the management of files
  • Establish a system for maintaining sensitive records of OHCHR

    Qualifications

  • Ability to implement administrative policies/principles, preferably related to project/programme implementation.
  • Affinity with budgeting and accounting.
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals.
  • Secondary Education - preferably with specialized certification in Programming or monitoring and evaluation, but it is not a requirement.
  • Five years of relevant experience (programmatic and administrative) at the national or international level, preferably in the field of social sciences, human rights and development.
  • Experience in the use of computers and office software (MS Word, Excel and Power point) and in handling of web based information systems.
  • Fluency in English, with good communications skills and drafting ability.

    United Nations National Human Rights Officer Jobs in Kampala

    Job Description

    Under the overall supervision of the Head of Office/Deputy Head of Office and under the direct supervision of the Team Leader within delegated authority, the National Human Rights Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

    Responsibilities

    Conduct research on areas of domestic

  • Legislation and Policy with major human rights implications with a view of providing substantive support to the Office team and relevant national partners;
  • Provide commentary on legislation, policies, rules of procedure, and other statutory frameworks, advising the State and other stakeholders with reference to international human rights standards and comparative good practices;
  • Support legislative and policy reform initiatives led by the State or other stakeholders through provision of technical assistance in drafting of relevant regulatory frameworks;
  • Provide legal analytical advice on matters pertaining to national laws, for OHCHR’s substantive work at country level.

    Partnerships and Outreach

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key institutions in the law and policy making process, UN agencies and civil society partners with a view to facilitating OHCHR’s technical cooperation on human rights;
  • Targeted advocacy with national partners so as to influence State institutions and local partners to adopt appropriate policy or actions that strengthen human rights compliance;
  • Represent OHCHR on the Justice Law and Order (JLOS) Sector Working Group and Coordination meetings with Development Partners to provide substantive human rights guidance on international human rights norms
    and standards;
  • Monitor key reform and technical assistance processes within the JLOS Sector, and ensure circulation of information within OHCHR;
  • Provide strategic analysis of opportunities to advance OHCHR’s technical support on legal issues and administration of justice in particular, within the country.

    Qualifications

  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of human rights-related matters; ability to identify problems, i.e., political, ethnic, racial, gender-based, social, economic, etc., causing civil unrest in a country or geographic area; demonstrated research and analytical skills, including the ability to identify and participate in the resolution of relevant issues/problems;
  • Ability to establish priorities and to plan, coordinate and monitor own work plan; Demonstrated ability to apply good judgment in the context of assignments given;
  • Ability to speak and write in a clear and concise manner, including ability to draft a variety of reports, correspondence, etc.; Technological Awareness - Good computer skills, including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, other and relevant software packages;
  • Good interpersonal skills, ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.

    Job Description

    Under the supervision of the Head/Deputy of OHCHR, the Management Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

    Responsibilities

  • Drafting correspondence for Management as requested;
  • Monitoring and alerting on deadlines for submission of required documentation;
  • Supporting the Administration Team Leaders and Desk Officers in preparing and finalizing documents,
  • Maintaining and organizing the filing system for Administration Record, distribute and file in Record, distribute and file in an efficient registry and filing system all incoming and Administration Section outgoing correspondence
  • Sourcing for quotations and making Analysis for the certification of the Administrative Officer
  • Prepare commitment letter for approved purchases
  • Receive and register new purchases
    Issue items from the store and maintain proper update of store request forms and stock cards
    Send quarterly request to the Administrative assistant for replenishment.
  • Check, process and record all payments
    Administer invoice and expenses claims received
    Book keeping functions
  • Any other related duties assigned.

    Qualifications

  • Ability to implement administrative policies/principles, preferably related to project/programme implementation.
  • orks collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals, supports and acts in accordance with the final group decision, solicits input by genuinely valuing other’s ideas and expertise, is willing to learn from others.
  • Speaks and writes clearly and effectively, listens to others, correctly interprets messages from others and responds appropriately.
  • Secondary Education preferably with specialized certification in Accounting and Finance.
  • University Degree in Business or Public Administration, Economics, Political Sciences and Social Sciences would be desirable
  • At least 2 years of combined progressively responsible experience in related area of work.
