United Nations Environment Programme Sustainable electronics expert Jobs in Kenya; The proposed individual contractor will develop UNEP’s programme for the sustainability of the electronics sector based on the project document. For this purpose, the individual contractor will carry out analysis of industry standards and policies for electronic sector sustainability, review existing national/regional/global policies and standards, developing necessary partnerships, raising financial resources.


B. Duties:

(1) Objectives: To develop and implement UNEP activities based on the project document on circularity in electronic sector and on the sector analysis to form a basis to develop UNEP activities.

(2) Output expectations: a) Report on the updated strategy and actions of the electronics industry and government policies related to the sustainable electronic sector based on the detailed big data; (b) Development of at least three project concept notes for donor funding; and (c) Draft terms of reference and workplan of the GFC working group to develop an implementation programme for the electronics sector.

(3) Performance indicators:

(a) The production of the technical reports, of which quality is satisfactory to UNEP;


(b) Three project concepts accepted for funding and (c) draft TOR and workplan agreed upon by the working group members.

C. Specific tasks and responsibilities: Under the overall supervision of Head of the IETC and in close coordination with UNEP-IETC,


the individual contractor will be responsible for the following tasks:


(1) Research and Analysis:

- Conduct comprehensive research on up-to-dated strategies and actions undertaken by the electronics industry concerning sustainability.

- Collect and analyze national government policies, regulations, and initiatives relevant to the sustainable electronics sector targeting developing countries, which were not covered by the previous - Engage with key stakeholders, including industry associations, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations, to gather up-to-date information.


(2) Report Preparation:

- Prepare a detailed report summarizing the updated strategies and actions of the electronics industry and relevant government policies, including analysis of trends, gaps, and opportunities. - Ensure the report includes clear policy recommendations and actionable insights for advancing sustainability in the electronics sector.

(3) Project Concept Note Development:

- Identify potential areas and opportunities for project development that align with UNEP’s objectives and donor priorities.

- Develop at least three well-structured project concept notes, including background, objectives, expected outcomes, activities, and budget estimates.


- Coordinate with UNEP-IETC and relevant
stakeholders to refine and finalize the concept note for donor submission.

(4) Global Consumer Survey Implementation Support:

- Review and assess the methodology and implementation process of the global consumer survey on electronics. - Liaise with survey partners and relevant stakeholders to gather information and feedback on survey progress and challenges.

- Prepare a comprehensive report on the implementation of the global consumer survey, including key findings, stakeholder engagement, and recommendations for future surveys.

(5) Project Management

- Manage the circularity in the electronics project in Mexico and Kazakhstan - Manage the Circularity in the electronics project globally and develop the programme related to circularity in the electronics sector.

(6) Stakeholder Engagement & Coordination under the Circularity in Electronics project:

- Facilitate consultations and communication with relevant stakeholders, including government bodies, industry players, consumer groups, and international organizations.

- Participate in meetings, workshops, and conferences as needed to present findings and represent UNEP’s work on sustainable electronics.

(7) Convening working group to develop implementation programme for GFC electronics sector

(8) Organize side events in global environmental agreements like the Montreal Protocol and GFC OEWG.


Qualifications/special skills

Academic qualifications: Masters or equivalent in the field of environmental management, industry sustainability, environmental or industrial engineering, environmental education, economics, and other related areas.

Experience:

• At least 10 years of professional experiences in programme development, project management, sector sustainability policy and other sustainable electronics sector related fields.

• Experiences in UN technical report writing. Specific knowledge and skills:

• Capacity to gather, analyze and synthesize data and generate relevant information (asset).

• Prior experience working with international organizations (desirable). • Willingness to promote gender equity.

• Cultural sensitivity / Appreciation of diversity.

Languages

Demonstrated capacity to write UN documents in English.
