Introduction

Responsibilities

  • Emergency preparedness is effectively arranged together with establishment of country contingency plans and early warning mechanisms.
  • Emergency preparedness and response plans addresses gender issues that may be expected to intensify during emergencies.
  • Emergency plans of action are developed, and compliance and coordination of all sectors with the plans are implemented.
  • Policy advice on emergencies and programme guidance related to implementation of emergency preparedness measures are effectively provided.
  • Coordination and management of emergency preparedness and response and a consistent flow of information of the humanitarian situation are effectively maintained within the office.
  • Significant improvements are made in the emergency preparedness and response capability of UNICEF staff and implementing partners through conduct of effective training activities.
  • In the event of an emergency, UNICEF's presence is promptly established and the initial emergency operational tasks are effectively executed, including provision of support for information communication technology, telecommunications facility and all staff security related assistance in the country office.
  • Needs assessment is effectively conducted to determine priorities and an appropriate intervention by UNICEF based on the local emergency situation affecting children and their families and community.
  • Effective assistance is provided to the (Deputy) Representative in emergency operations oversight and program management with clear accountabilities.
  • Emergency appeals and project proposals are prepared, and concerted efforts are put forward to mobilize donor response and recovery/rehabilitation-related funding.
  • Longer-term requirements of the emergency operation/interventions are determined to develop a regular operational and staffing structure.
  • Continuous, effective and strategic coordination, communication, consultation and liaison are maintained with Government, UN agencies, NGOs, donors and allies in support of the special needs of children and women affected by emergency situations within the framework of the cluster approach and based on the Core Commitment for Children.
  • Management is kept informed of humanitarian developments in relevant policies, situation developments, potential threats and opportunities/issues in the country.
  • Emergency preparedness and response strategies are mainstreamed in the country office's workplans. Sectoral input is provided for all related documents for the office’s Emergency Preparedness and Response, as well as for the Situation Analysis and the Country Programme Document.

    Qualifications

  • Advanced University degree in one of the following fields:
  • Public health, nutrition, international relations or other related disciplines. Preferably a combination of management and relevant technical fields.
  • Eight years of progressively responsible professional work experience at the national and international levels in programme/project development, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Developing country work experience
  • Specialized training/experience in emergency response management highly desirable.

    United Nations Children's Partnerships Officer (Private Sector)Jobs in Kenya

    Responsibilities

  • Partnerships – provide advice to COs in the identification, development, and finalization of local private sector partnerships that include both financial and non-financial elements. This includes support to due diligence, pitch development, negotiation, and finalization of MoUs. It also includes Salesforce database management of all ESAR accounts.
  • Stewardship – to provide best practice support to COs on stewardship and reporting templates, and to directly support the stewardship of regional
    level private sector partners and the completion of reports.
  • Capacity building – To provide the initial support, with a focus primarily on non-PSFR COs in the region, on private sector queries and issues.
  • As well, to contribute content and support to private sector capacity building through CO missions and to major private sector trainings in the region.
  • Provide support in other related tasks and larger partnership team objectives to ensure an integrated approach.

    Qualifications

  • University degree in Social Sciences, Development, Business, Corporate Social Responsibility, Public Administration or related field.
  • At least two years of professional experience in private sector partnerships. Experience in Africa a plus.
  • Fluency in English

    United Nations Children's TA WASH Officer Jobs in Kenya

    Responsibilities

  • Support the humanitarian WASH programme in terms of reporting, information management and data analysis, and develop knowledge pieces to enhance the visibility of the programme
  • Support the development side of the WASH programme with knowledge management, reporting as required
  • Develop a concept note exploring the expansion of resilience programming in the area of the WASH humanitarian-development nexus, to reduce the impact of future drought events and disease outbreaks
  • Develop first drafts of donor reports and programme documents as required by the WASH Chief
  • Develop resource mobilization documents as required.
  • Other ad hoc support to the WASH team as required.

    Qualifications

  • A first level university degree in public health, social sciences, behavior change communication, sanitary engineering or other specialist field related to WASH is required
  • At least two years professional work experience in the WASH sector with UNICEF or other international organisations, government or the private sector.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language or a local language is an asset.

  • A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in public health/nutrition planning and management and/or in relevant areas of maternal and neonatal health care, health emergency/humanitarian preparedness, at the international level some of which preferably in a developing country is required.
  • Relevant experience in health/nutrition program/project development and management in any UN system agency or organization is an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language or a local language is an asset
