Org. Setting and Reporting

In February 2013, 11 nations signed the Peace, Security and Cooperation (PSC) Framework for the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the region, in a renewed drive to end the recurring cycles of devastating conflict in eastern DRC which impacts stability and development in the Great Lakes area of Africa.

On 31 January 2014, two more countries, Kenya and Sudan, became signatories of the PSC Framework. The framework aims to help "address the root causes of conflict and put an end to recurring cycles of violence" in eastern DRC and the Great Lakes Region.

In its Resolution 2098 (2013), the Security Council welcomed the signing of the PSC Framework. It called on the Special Envoy, in coordination with the Special Representative for the DRC to “lead, coordinate and assess the implementation of national and regional commitments under the PSC Framework, including through the establishment of benchmarks and appropriate follow-up measures”.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direct supervision of the Director Political Affairs Office, the incumbent will perform the following duties: (some of these functions are generic and may not necessarily be performed by the incumbent of this post).

    Human Resources Management

  • Enters, maintains and certifies administrative data and records for time and attendance, performance appraisal, etc. in electronic information systems.
  • Submission of the Expense Reports in UMOJA and Cigna medical claims, Telephone ebilling; and providing constant feedback.
  • Filing of official documents.
  • Maintain calendar/schedules for the political affairs team.

    Education

  • High school or equivalent diploma is required.
  • Technical or vocational certificate in administrative services, finance, human resources, business administration or personnel management is a desirable.

    Work Experience

  • A minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible experience in the field of administrative services, finance, accounting, human resources, audit or in other related field is required. Experience working in a Front Office with high-level officials or senior diplomats is highly desirable. Experience working in the Great Lakes region is also highly desirable.

    Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

  • Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment
    exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

    Special Notice

  • This position is temporarily available for six (6) months. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment.
