Responsibilities
Evidence generation
Review existing pieces of literature and analyses on disability and inclusive education in Kenyan context
Conduct an analysis on the current status of disability and inclusive education component in the whole education programming of UNICEF Kenya especially on its ongoing projects such as the Connecting the unconnected and empowering underprivileged girls through improved learning outcomes: A partnership between Nokia and UNICEF Kenya and the Operation Come-to-School projects
Develop a strategy plan to ensure the strengthening and further mainstreaming of disability and inclusive education in the whole education programming of UNICEF Kenya
Capacity building and knowledge management
Provide continued expertise and facilitate capacity building workshops for education staff of UNICEF Kenya and partners on strategies to strengthen and further mainstream disability and inclusive education in the whole education programming of UNICEF Kenya
Programme implementation
Facilitate implementation of education programmes of UNICEF Kenya related to disability and inclusive education in the ongoing projects of the Country Office
Engagement with partners
Provide technical expertise to the Ministry of Education in the operationalization of the Sector Policy for Learners and Trainees with Disabilities specifically in two major processes, namely, the establishment of pilot schools for inclusive education and the strengthening of Education Assessment Resource Centers (EARC)
Provide strategic guidance to the Ministry of Education in materializing the disability and inclusive education component in documents such as the National Education Sector Support Programme (NESSP 2018-22)
Work relationships:
The Education Officer needs to work closely with UNICEF field and country office education team as well as collaborate with the Ministry of Education, partners, and private sector.
Timeframe: The assignment is
expected to take 364 days.
Duty Station: While the duty station is Nairobi, the Education Officer will be expected to travel to counties as needed.

post:
An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in development studies, education or social sciences or other relevant fields
A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
A minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in designing, managing, and implementing programmes on disability and inclusive education
Critical understanding on education in developing countries like Kenya
Experience in working with organizations such as the Ministry of Education and civil society organizations, and ability to work efficiently and effectively with project members in various locations and from multiple organizations
Strong training and facilitating skills
Ability to integrate different experiences, methodologies, and approaches from a diverse range of stakeholders, organizations, and technical experts from multiple sectors.
Excellent English speaking/writing skills required.
Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
