    Major Tasks & Responsibilities include:

  • Contributes towards the preparation of the Situation Analysis on Nutrition by compiling data, analyzing and evaluating information, and writing chapters of the Analysis.
  • Develops a comprehensive community based nutrition program addressing the long term strategies; developing the capacity of the family/caretaker and the communities for making appropriate decision based on their available resources.
  • Responsible for developing the strategies and programs for addressing the underlying and basic causes of malnutrition; establishing a community based nutrition information system based on the GMP; establishing the linkages between the communities based nutrition activities and EOS, HSEP services.
  • Advice and provide technical assistance to relevant sectoral bureaus on community based Nutrition activities including, developing strategies and approaches to ensure integrated community based participatory planning and delivery of services at community level to ensure sustainable development.
  • Coordinate UNICEF support related to Community Based Nutrition interventions and liaison with various ongoing community based activities by the government and development partners especially under the Productive Safety Net Program, Child Growth promotion under Food Security Project.
  • In collaboration with partners, assist the process of baby friendly hospital initiative, development of Code of Marketing of Breast Milk Substitutes, and code of BMS legislation, development of appropriate IEC strategy for IYCF.
  • Provides technical support to government and non-government organizations at the national, regional, woreda and community levels in the planning, development and implementation stages of the nutrition projects.
  • Plans, organizes training and orientation activities for government personnel/implementing partners including NGOs, for the purpose of capacity building at the central, regional and woreda levels, and expansion of coverage of nutrition services.
  • Reviews and evaluates the technical, institutional and financial feasibility and constraints of community based nutrition projects, in coordination and collaboration with government and other partners.
  • Assist preparation of plans of action, implementation, monitoring and evaluation modality for Community based Nutrition activities;
  • assess the training needs
    of the counterparts, design and facilitate appropriate training with the objective to strengthen the implementation capacities for community based nutrition activities;
  • Coordinate UNICEF’s support and liaise with implementing partners and participate in Technical Working Group regular meetings.
  • Communicate with federal and regional counterparts on project effectiveness.
  • Coordinates with the Operations/Supply staff on supply and non-supply assistance activities ensuring proper and timely UNICEF and government accountability.
  • Certifies disbursements of funds, monitors and submits financial status reports to the Sr. Programme Officer or Representative, as required.
  • Participates in the development of the sectoral workplan, ensures the achievement of specific assigned objectives. Provides guidance and support to staff in meeting project objectives.
  • Ensures the accurate and timely input of project information in the computerized programme system, and issues status reports for monitoring and evaluation purposes.

    Qualifications

  • An Advanced university degree in one of the disciplines relevant to the following areas: Public Health & Nutrition, Health Sciences, International Health & Nutrition, Public Health & Nutrition Policy and Management, Family Health & Nutrition, Nutritional Epidemiology, Health & Nutrition Education, Health & Nutrition Promotion and Disease Prevention, Public Health, Health Emergency Preparedness, or other relevant discipline(s)Training in gender and in nutrition programmes that promote gender equality an asset.
  • A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience in relevant professional experience in nutrition .
  • experience in community based and micronutrient deficiencies prevention programming.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
