Purpose

Under the supervision of the Administrative Assistant, the driver provides reliable and safe driving services, and demonstrates highest standards of professionalism, discretion, integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol whilst ensuring compliance with local driving rules and regulations.

The position of Driver at the G-2 level reports to the Administrative Assistant at the GS 5 level and is technically supervised by the Senior Operations Associate.

Main Responsibilities and Tasks

Main duties

1. Reliable and safe driving services for staff and officials.

• Drives office vehicles for the transport of UN staff, officials, visitors, and delivery and collection of mails, documents, cargo from UNHAS and other items.
• Meets official personnel and visitors at the airport and may assist with basic visa and customs formalities and arrangements when required.

2. Maintenance of assigned vehicle.

• Ensure vehicle is always kept in good condition through addressing minor repairs, deciding for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, water levels, and vehicle washing.

3. Documentation of vehicle related information.

• Ensure availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle registration, vehicle logs, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle, keep track of insurance of the vehicle, and toolbox are all documented and kept well in the vehicle.

Duty Station and Travel

This post is based in Pibor with field missions as needed.

Minimum Qualifications and Competencies

Education:

• Completion of secondary education.
• Mechanical training will be an asset.

Work Experience:

• Two (2) years of progressively responsible driver work experience.
• Understanding of development and humanitarian work in an emergency is an advantage

Language Proficiency

• Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language or
• local language of the duty station is considered as an asset.
