    The United Nations Environment (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

    UN Environment's Communication Division communicates UN Environment's core messages to all stakeholders and partners, raising environmental awareness and enhancing the profile of UN Environment worldwide. This position is located in the Communication Division at the Nairobi duty station. Under the supervision of the Head of Web the incumbent will carry out the following duties:

    Responsibilities

  • Participates in the development, programming, testing, debugging and implementation of new web modules and functionalities.
  • Manages UN Environment website, ensuring colleagues are posting content according to established guidelines and policies.
  • Curates content for UN Environment’s homepage, topic landing pages and news and story section.
  • Prepares technical and user documentation for deployed website, as well as training materials and conducts training and technical presentations for organization’s web focal points.
  • Conducts regular updates and checkins with web focal points and develops monthly web tips/newsletter
  • Provides web focal points with guidance on sound storytelling.Serves as team member in the planning, specification, design, development, implementation and support of UN Environment’s web and digital ecosystem; independently liaises with users to define and specify requirements.
  • Conducts user analysis to identify emerging user needs; monitors how users are interacting with the website; reviews website analytics and provides suggestions on how to enhance the organization’s content strategy.
  • Maintains functional specifications for website and procedures developed and/or modified.
  • Provides support for deployed website including version management, content recovery and deployment to users’ offices; performs ongoing reviews with users and developers and responds to users requests.
  • Drafts correspondence and communications, including work plan revisions and other related issues, as well as prepares unit contributions for a variety of periodic reports.
  • Serves as focal point for coordination, monitoring and expedition of website, involving extensive liaison with diverse organizational units to initiate requests;
  • prepares standard terms of reference; processes and follows-up on administrative actions and resolves issues related to project implementation, e.g.
  • organization of and participation in training, procurement of equipment and services, etc.
  • Keeps abreast of developments in the field; performs benchmarking and proposes new acquisitions.
  • Provides guidance to new/junior staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Education

  • Completion of secondary school is required. Supplementary training in Information Technology is required.
  • MUST have passed the United Nations Administrative Support Assessment Test (ASAT) or the Global General Service Test (GGST) at Headquarters or an equivalent locally-administered test at Offices away from Headquarters.

    Work Experience

  • A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in web development, information systems analysis and programming, systems administration and maintenance, software development, technical writing or related area is required.

    Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

    Assessment

  • Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

    Special Notice

  • This position is funded for an initial period of one year and may be subject to extension.
  • Appointment against this post is on a local basis.

  • Staff members are subject to the authority of and assignment by the Secretary-General. All staff are expected to move periodically to new functions in their careers in accordance with established rules and procedures.
