ResponsibilitiesTakes the lead to develop, implement and evaluate assigned programmes/projects, etc.; directs subordinates in programme/project development, implementation, monitoring and assessment; directs review of relevant documents and reports; identifies priorities, problems and issues to be addressed and proposes corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; identifies and initiates follow-up actions.
Directs research and programme evaluation and provide input on assessments of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or research activities and studies, particularly in relation to current environmental topics (e.g., sustainable hydrogen, water, fisheries sustainability, sustainable agriculture, biodiverse-positive goods and services).
Provides environment-related technical, scientific and/or economic input to the relevant work at the WTO, the Committee on Trade and Environment and the three environmental initiatives.
Coordinates policy development; reviews the assessments of issues and trends, preparation of impact evaluation or equivalent studies, etc.
Undertakes survey initiatives; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identifies problems/issues and prepares conclusions.
Supports the provision of substantive inputs, on environmental issues related to the three planetary crisis of pollution, biodiversity loss and climate change, in various written outputs, e.g. background papers, analysis, substantial sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.
Ensures implementation of gender mainstreaming guidelines by assessing the implications for men and women of any planned action, including legislation, policies or programmes, in all areas and at all levels.
Directs substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc.
Manages outreach activities; designs and conducts training workshops, seminars, etc., makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.
Coordinates activities related to budget and funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and ensures preparation of related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, etc.).
Serves as an effective spokesperson and establishes joint technical collaboration and partnerships between the WTO and UNEP.
Ensures effective utilization, supervision and development of staff; Guides, evaluates and mentors staff.
May perform other duties as required.

Education
Advanced university (Master's or equivalent) degree in economics, environmental economics or environment science (e.g., climate, biodiversity, environment pollution). A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration or related area is required.
Experience in undertaking research and assessments of issues and trends, related to the triple planetary crisis and covering topics such as sustainable hydrogen, water, fisheries sustainability, sustainable agriculture, biodiverse-positive goods and services, is required.
Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised fluency in oral and written English is required and knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another UN language would be desirable.
