UNDP Results Based Communication Consultant Jobs in Kenya


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Update the design of a 4-6-page newsletter (A4, PDF or JPLEG) with creative title, attractive layout consisting of appropriate mix of text, pictures and graphs. Layout should include UN, donors and Somali governments’ logos (Once, approximate time 1 day);
  • 2 newsletters highlighting major facts, trends, challenges and opportunities for JPLG. The content should be accompanied by high quality photographs. The newsletters in English will be distributed electronically (end of May, end of September). Approximate time for each newsletter is 2 days;
  • Editing of human stories (approx. 1,000-1,500 words), highlighting how local governance / decentralization has impacted on the life of ordinary Somali citizens (in Somaliland and Federal Government of Somalia) with, when possible, a specific focus on women, youth and vulnerable groups. Approximate time per story is 1 day;
  • Build for the programme, a comprehensive distribution list for all products among donors, international development organizations, Somalia governments, local and international media;
  • Summary brochure of JPLG’s work – up to 8 – 10 pages, with clear indications of impact and core areas of focus to act as a briefing note for Somali partners, journalists and relevant development partners. Approximate time is 3 days;
  • Provide advice and guidance for the JPLG to build strong linkages with Somali mass media and electronic media;
  • Provide advice and guidance for JPLG’s web presence including Facebook, the JPLG web site and Twitter. Jointly launch JPLG Facebook (June 2017), web site and maximise visitor numbers;
  • Support editing and formatting of 2 JPLG Quarterly Reports (approx. 50-60 pages). Approximate time per report is 4 days;
  • Support and advice JPLG/PMU on specific issues related to external communication issues.

    Required Skills and Experience

    Academic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in development communication, public information, communication, journalism, graphic design or any other related field.

    Years of experience:
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant working experience in communication;
  • Work experience in fragile states/conflict settings with a Government agency or development partner is an added advantage;
  • Proven experience in external communication, social marketing related to local governance and decentralized service delivery is an added advantage.

    Language requirements:
  • Excellent communication, analytical skills and drafting in English;
  • Knowledge of Somali is an added advantage.

    UNDP Intern- ICT Unit Jobs in Kenya

    [Duties and Responsibilities

  • Regularly and timely provide 1st level ICT end-user support as assigned and via ICT helpdesk.
  • Assist in the programming and implementation of new systems
  • Assist in troubleshooting of network issues
  • Assess, diagnose and provide resolutions to end-user problems in accordance with the foundations of ICT service management and service delivery. Assist in maintenance of relevant knowledge base, processes and procedures for the ICT Help Desk.
  • Work with other staff within the section to share best-practice solutions for improved services delivery
  • Attend to the operations of ICT Service Desk Management System and handling communication in support of service support whenever required. This may involve incident registration and monitoring.
  • Assist in maintenance of user accounts within appropriate workflow mechanism and procedure to facilitate user access to various ICT services
  • Prepare the required performance monitoring output reports on ICT support services
  • Assist in implementation of technical preventive maintenance to ensure business continuity, maximum systems security and better equipment lifetime.

    Required Skills and Experience

    Education:
  • Enrolled on Bachelors or master’s degree Information Technology, or computer studies.
  • Candidates must, at the time of application, be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum
  • Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
  • Have graduated and be within one-year of graduation of any of the above.

    Language: Fluency in English.

    Duration:
    Internship assignments vary in length according to the availability and academic requirements of the intern, as well as the needs of UNDP. However,duration is from six weeks to six months.

    Status:
  • Interns are considered gratis personnel. They are not staff members.
  • Interns may not be sought or accepted as substitutes for staff to be recruited against authorized posts.
  • Interns may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.

    UNDP Executive Officer to RR/RC Jobs in Kenya

    Duties and Responsibilities

  • Effective and efficient functioning of the DSRSG/RC/HC/RR;
  • Coordination of tasks related to the DSRSG/RC/HC/RR Office and its representation;
  • Administration implementation and Management;
  • Facilitates knowledge building and knowledge sharing.
  • Effective and Efficient Functioning of the DSRSG/RC/HC/RR Office focusing on the achievement of the following results;
  • Prioritizes the DSRSG/RC/HC/RR agenda and ensures timely and quality briefings/notes are provided, in particular;
  • Organizes and oversee the DSRSG/RC/HC/RR’s agenda;
  • Coordinates the organization of the DSRSG/RC/HC/RR missions;
  • Manage continuous demands for appointments with the DSRSG/RC/HC/RR in close consultation with the Head of the Resident Coordinator’s Office, including long term calendar commitments/workshops/high level meetings.
  • Provides operational support to the DSRSG/RC/HC/RR:
  • Deals independently with matters that do not require attention of the DSRSG/RC/HC/RR;
  • Consults with appropriate Heads of Agencies in following up for replies as required;
  • Prioritizes important correspondence and issues for the DSRSG/RC/HC/RR attention ensuring that all matters are delivered.
  • Makes arrangements for official travel of the DSRSG/RC/HC/RR, communicate with meeting organizers/countries offices on logistics; set itinerary, prepare travel request, follow up on the authorization obtain clearances, visas, tickets necessary for travel.
  • Ensures management of interaction between DSRSG/RC/HC/RR with UN Somalia agencies, RCO, UNCT, UNSOM, Donors, INGOs/LNGOs and Sub offices of UNDP and UN in the field.
  • Participates in the overall day to day management and coordination of the RC/RR Office activities, including setting up priorities, providing follow up and feedback, background documents and publications, and support progress towards delivery of agreed results.

    Required Skills and Experience

    Education:
  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in Economics, Social Sciences, International Relations, Political Sciences or related field.

    Experience:

  • 4 years of relevant work experience at the national or international level in providing administrative, management and coordination services;
  • Experience in the usage of computers, office software packages and web based management systems;
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of discretion and helpfulness, positively reflecting on the CO;
  • Knowledge of the UN and RC systems, external partners, facilitating efficiency in handling incoming queries and requests will be an asset;
  • Ability to work in teams, build networks and partnerships, collect information and perform liaison functions will be an asset;
  • Good analytical and report writing skills will be an asset.

    Language Requirements:Fluency in English.
