WFP Ethiopia is working with the government and other humanitarian partners to strengthen the resilience of Ethiopia’s most vulnerable population and to chart a more prosperous and sustainable future for the next generation.
The Country Office also supports programmes that use food assistance to empower women, transform areas affected by climate change and keep children in school. It aims to contribute to Ethiopia’s five-year development agenda, the Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP), through which the Government combats food insecurity.
Organizational Context
This job is found in Assosa Field Office. Job holder report to technically to the Head of Security Unit in Country office and overall direct reporting will be to the Head of Field Office or the designate.
At this level job holder is expected to take responsibility for the completion of a range of security-related processes and activities requiring some interpretation of standard guidelines and practices. Job holder is to recommend a course of action on a range of security issues, deal with staff at various levels and may allocate tasks to other colleagues. This job may require to work different shifts and report for duty on short notice.
Job Purpose
To perform a range of specialized and process-oriented responsibilities related to security operations including monitoring and maintaining security equipment in line with established procedures.
Key Accountabilities
Assist in reviewing security threats and risks, compile timely and accurate reports on trends and situations that could adversely impact WFP operations to ensure information is accurately collated to support reporting and decision making.
Regularly assess and update the security situation inside the camps and adjacent host communities, along the routes to the operational areas in general with special emphasis on the Tongo and Gure Shenbolla corridors. Closely follow up and analyse evolving security threats and risks in Metekel and Kamashi zones and provide regular briefs to the Head of Office.
Review security-related information (security incidents and events, security support to daily activities, etc.) and use corporate or local information management tools to provide basic analyses and reports to ensure information is readily available for relevant stakeholders.
Liaise and coordinate with local administrations, security and law enforcement authorities, communities, UN/NGO security staff and other actors to facilitate access for safe programme delivery and to mitigate potential risks against staff and other resources.
Prepare detailed security assessment reports after field missions with risk mitigation recommendations to support security situation analysis and facilitate informed decision-making.
Assist in the formulation of advice to the head of field office on security risk management matters and safety issues in compliance with the United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS).
Assist in the implementation of all security risk mitigation measures, including the Minimum Operating Security Standards (MOSS) to ensure full compliance.
Assist in the management and maintenance of security equipment and identify new requirements to strengthen technology capacity in line with business requirements.
Contribute to the development and update of emergency and contingency planning documentation, including physical preparations and procedures to support preparedness for a crisis.
Assist in the identification of security training needs to support training planning and implementation to address staff security awareness needs.
Liaise with local
Government Authorities to foster good relations to ensure that issues quickly are resolved, and operational performance standards are maintained.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Prior experience with the UN system or international NGOs.
Has supported in providing ad-hoc technical guidance to staff members.
Standard Minimum Qualifications
Education: Minimum requirement is the completion of secondary school education. A first-level University Degree is desirable.
Experience: Five years of progressive experience is required and among which 2 years in the functional area or related field.
Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English.
