Job PurposeIn the UN System, UNIN is recognised as a valuable and credible platform for sharing leading practices, foster exchange and scale innovation across the UN System.
It supports knowledge sharing and exchange through regular webinars, as well as hosting a website, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube account, and Teams Channel.
Under the supervision of the UNIN Manager and Deputy, the Junior communication and community support will support the identification and sharing of content on these channels, as well as assist in expanding UNIN’s service and information offering overall.
Key Accountabilities (not all-inclusive)
1. Communications Media Support Initially support and eventually lead the management of UNIN’s social media accounts
Monitor official UN social media accounts and other online sources and recommend relevant content for social media
Curate UNIN’s online libraries and identify and add relevant content publications, webinars and other assets to UNIN libraries
Monitor relevant innovation challenges and job openings and add them to UNIN’s online presence
Monitor and analyse engagement across UNIN’s online platforms
Support the preparation of publications, such as regular UN Innovation Updates and broader reports
Develop a UNIN photo base with relevant metadata and tags to ensure digital accessibility
2. Web Support
Manage and update UNIN’s website with new content (based on WebFlow)
Create new website sub-pages to reflect UNIN’s ongoing work and priorities
Support the maintenance and management of UNIN’s membership database (e.g. verification, data cleaning etc)
3. Event Support
Support UNIN in setting up, scheduling and hosting events, including through
Creating and managing Zoom meetings and webinars
Arranging and leading technical rehearsals
Providing technical support during e-meetings
Analysing meeting data and feedback
Preparing and sending post-event communications
4. Community Support
Provide overall community management support
Support WFP and UNIN in building a local innovation community in Kenya (in collaboration with the WFP Kenya Innovation office)
Standard Minimum Qualification
Education: Completed secondary school education.
A post-secondary certificate or degree in communications, event management, digital learning, community management, public relations or a related discipline is desirable.
Work Experience: At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in communication, event planning, community management or related activities.
With a relevant post-secondary degree, 2 years of experience.
IT skills: Experience in using online platforms such as MailChimp, Zoom, WebFlow, Airtable and Zapier is strongly desirable
Language: High proficiency in written and spoken English; knowledge of a second UN language is a plus.
Mobility: Willing to travel as needed (not regularly anticipated).

Self-motivated and able to work with a high degree of autonomy
Collaborative spirit able to liaise with a wide range of people at all levels and across different cultures
Strong time management skills with an ability to plan, anticipate requirements and problems, juggle competing priorities, and meet deadlines
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to produce high-quality materials
Experience in managing social media accounts and creating engaging content. Experience in graphic and video editing and design is a strong plus.
Experience planning events, including virtual events (experience in planning events in large complex organisations is desirable)
Experience in managing the backend of websites to add, update, modify and tag content where relevant
Fully committed and motivated to achieve the aims of the United Nations, including through leveraging data and innovation
Functional Capabilities
Media and Communication Expertise
Collates accurate and timely information presented in required format (i.e. written or visual materials) as well as verbally, to enable information flows and informed decision making on communications issues.
Specialised Knowledge in Communications
Exhibits specalised technical knowledge of communications channels processes, tools and techniques.
In immediate area of responsibility, provides support in developing written, visual, audio and multi-media content for communications materials and suggestions for improved communications processes.
