UN World Food Programme Anticipatory Action Climate & Risk Management International Jobs in Tanzania

About WFP

The United Nations World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetimes. Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.

Background and Purpose of the Assignment

Tanzania Country Office is implementing its second-generation Country Strategic Plan (CSP) 2022-2027. Based on a comprehensive consultation process and an analysis of key drivers of food security and nutrition in the country, the important themes of Anticipatory Action, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), resilience, and climate change adaptation have emerged as priorities for the WFP programme portfolio.

The National Climate Change Response Strategy (2021-2026) noted that efforts towards maintaining lower middle-income or even reaching higher status may be, to a large extent, impeded by anticipated climate related shocks like natural disasters and extreme weather conditions, due to high reliance of the country’s economy on natural resources and its consequent low adaptive capacities.
