Role Purpose:
In support of Save the Children's Centenary Commitment, Protecting Children in Conflict, research and advocacy activities will be conducted to improve the effectiveness and quality of programme interventions and the protection of children in conflict in South Sudan.
The overall role of the PCIC Research and Advocacy Manager will be to lead on program reviews, studies and advocacy activities to advance Save the Children's capacity to program and advocate to Protect Children in Conflict under the supervision of the Child Protection Technical Specialist.
Contract Duration: 4 Months
Location: South Sudan (Up to 80% Field Locations)
Qualifications
PhD or MD in social sciences, behavioral sciences, international relations, development studies or a related field, and relevant experience in the successful implementation and management of conflict related research
Experience with design, implementation, and analysis of quantitative and qualitative research studies; experience hiring, training, and managing research staff for community-based studies.
Significant management/advisor level Child Protection experience working in emergency contexts/fragile states
Previous experience and strong skills on advocacy and communications
Experience of and commitment to working through systems of community participation and accountability
Experience in monitoring and evaluating child protection programmes in an emergency, transition and development contexts
Experience in capacity building and in strengthening partners and various duty bearers understanding of and response to child protection.
Experience of representation and ability to represent SC effectively in external forums.
Excellent communication skills and influencing skills and experience in advocacy and a high level of written and spoken English
Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.
Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
Willingness to travel and work regularly in field sites with basic standards of living and minimal comfort
