Org. Setting and ReportingThe United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the agency for human Settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.
This post is located in Urban Economy and Finance Branch of UN-Habitat. Under direct supervision of Chief, Youth and Livelihoods Unit.
Responsibilities
Strategy implementation: Develop, design, plan and implement innovative communication projects and campaigns in support of UN-Habitat’s programme of work on effective urban crisis prevention, job creation for youth, and ethics training;
Provide strategic input and oversight of various communication campaign; Identify sources and seek funding and other assistance for major campaigns.
Partnership management: Identify potential new partners, from the public and private sectors; Draft and tailor donor engagement strategies and manage new relationships;
Develop strategic partnerships with key constituencies; Maintain partnerships by organizing and facilitating regular meetings and providing accurate information and reports in a timely manner.
Programme Management: Evaluate results and impact of campaign activities and report on developments, trends and attitudes;
Prepare or oversee the implementation of a diverse range of programmes ranging from migration, post-conflict, innovation, youth employment, public space and One Stop Model; support the development of Ethics training, handling of ethics complaints, creation of ethics handbook and outreach to regional and country teams on ethics training; Conduct research and channel analysis by using relevant information/data to effectively formulate campaigns that amplify UN-Habitat’s messages to wider audiences.
Content and activity implementation: Plan, coordinate and implement activities related to the organization of large special events (i.e. World Urban Forum, UN-Habitat Assembly);
Provide guidance and direction in the conceptualization of large events by designing event concepts, organizing coordination meetings with internal and external partners;

Planning& Organizing: Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies; identifies priority activities and assignments; adjusts priorities as required; allocates appropriate amount of time and resources for completing work;
Foresees risks and allows for contingencies when planning; monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary; uses time efficiently.
Education
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in urban and/or municipal finance and/or youth-led development or related area.
A first university degree with a combination of two additional years professional and academic qualifications may be accepted in lieu of the advance degree.
Cutting edge knowledge of current local government and urban financing issues and solutions is added advantage.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in developing and implementing municipal and urban finance programmes and/or youth-led development.
Any hands-on experience at municipal level is an added advantage.
Demonstrated ability in resource mobilization is highly desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations secretariat. For this position fluency in written and spoken English is required.
Proven ability to draft and edit in English is desirable.
