The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the United Nations agency for Human Settlements.
It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.
As the United Nations focal point on human settlements, UN-Habitat will lead advocacy efforts to raise awareness of sustainable urbanization issues; provide evidence-based policy advice; build capacities; develop tools, norms and standards based on best practices; work on demonstration projects and provide assistance to national Governments, local authorities and other public institutions responsible for urban issues.
The Donor Relations and Income Management unit, which reports to the Director of Management and Operations, is responsible for coordinating UN-Habitat’s strategic and operational work on resource mobilization.
This includes support for a harmonized decentralized fund-raising model, providing tools to help manage and report on non-earmarked income and earmarked contributions, undertaking and supporting donor consultations as well as other activities related to strengthening relations with donors and enhancing predictable funding for UN-Habitat’s work on sustainable urbanization.
The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Officer-in-Charge, Donor Relations and Income Management Unit.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Head of the Unit, the incumbent’s responsibilities are to:
Review, respond and with follow up on all correspondence with the Donor Relations Unit, including that from donors as well as UN-Habitat staff
Support for fundraising events including large multi-partner consultations at Headquarters, field visits and high-level bilateral meetings, donor meetings at the World Urban Forum and other events; this includes organizational, administrative, logistical, and documentation support
Handle invoicing and follow up for core contributions including support for bilateral meetings with donors, including the provision of the necessary background documentation
Assist in the preparation, update and analysis of financial information on UN-Habitat’s core and earmarked income including that for the public donor website, UN-Habitat’s Donor Information System, UN-Habitat’s Intranet and that required for monitoring contribution grants as well that needed for management decisions.
Assist with monitoring of contribution grants to
minimize return of funds to donors, overdue contributions ensure compliance with contribution grants agreements as well as timely submission of donor reports.
Support implementation of donor relations module in Umoja Enterprise Resource Planning System and provide Umoja reports to support the functions of the Donor Relations and Income Management unit.
Assist with the preparation and monitoring of activities on the unit’s annual work plan and prepare progress reports.
Update, maintain and ensure staff are aware of resource mobilization support tools including standard templates for funding proposals, reports to donors, online training materials, donor briefs, etc.
Assist with duties relating to supporting decentralized resource mobilization model – this includes support to the Resource Mobilization Steering Committee, consolidating responses to donor related audits, assessments and evaluations, and compiling inputs from all offices for development and monitoring implementation of the organization’s resource mobilization strategy.
Performs other duties as assigned
Education
High school diploma or equivalent. Post-secondary school qualifications are an advantage.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of experience in programme or project administration, technical cooperation or a related area.
At least 5 years’ experience part of which must be related to financial analysis, grants management, donor relations and resource mobilization including engagement with Member States is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
