UN Human Settlements Program FSCP - CPI Spatial Data Analyst Jobs in Kenya
ResponsibilitiesEngage in the mapping of public spaces in 17 cities of interest in the FSCP as well as Spatial assessment reports that will be integrated in City Profiles.
Carry out the quality analysis of satellite data with a view on their usefulness in the context of public space mapping and other spatial analysis using GIS data for the 17 cities.
Organize a common database of GIS data for the 17 cities in the FSCP project.
Coordinate, GIS data support, reviews and develop appropriate strategies for groundtruthing and validation of the results in the 17 cities.
Provide detailed maps, data and analysis for the City Prosperity Initiative portfolio which will cover, the Street Connectivity (SCI), Accessibility to open public spaces, Land use mix and, total green area.
Organize/participate in regular workshop meetings with colleagues to align expectations on CPI and provide feedback to the findings produced by relevant offices
Take part in field missions in collaboration with UN-Habitat’s regional and country offices.
Participate in UN-Habitat missions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and attend other relevant meetings and conferences.
Undertake any other tasks in support of the FSCP activities.
Required Skills
Professionalism: Knowledge and understanding of theories, knowledge of concepts and analysis in the field of GIS, geographic data collection and analysis, knowledge of urban development issues, ability to observe deadline to achieve set goals. Proven ability to work with geographical data and excellent skills for the geographic visualizations of maps and geo referenced information. Ability to work and deliver under pressure. Ability to conduct an independent analysis, identify problems, formulate options, conclusions, & recommendations.
Planning and organization: Ability to work and deliver under pressure, prioritize and plan, coordinate own work plan, use time efficiently and apply common sense in the context of the terms of competition. Ability to observe deadlines and achieve set goals.
Communication: Excellent skills in oral and written communication, ability to articulate ideas clearly and precisely, including the ability to prepare and edit a variety of written documents, reports and summaries.
Teamwork: Good interpersonal skills, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
Creativity: Strong conceptual thinking. Ability to keep abreast of new developments in the urban development field; willingness to learn from others, ability to suggest innovative methods of spatial analysis.
Qualifications
Education
Minimum advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Urban Planning, Geography, and Statistics, economics or any other related fields. Good knowledge of software for Geographic Information Systems (Arc GIS, QGIS, AUTOCAD or ILLUSTRATOR) is required. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
Between 2 to 4 years of experience in data analysis, GIS, Geography, research on urban, social, economic or development issues. Experience in the spatial analysis aspect of the CPI is highly desirable.
Language Skills
For this consultancy, fluency in oral and written English is required. Although not a requirement, knowledge of Arabic will be an advantage.

UN Human Settlements Program Local Consultant on Municipal Finance Jobs in Kenya
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Branch Coordinator, Urban Economy and Finance Branch, the consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:
Supporting data collection, analysis and documenting the progress of the revenue enhancement project by UN-Habitat in Counties within Kenya.
Support the field technical team in the process and activities during rapid assessments and implementation tasks as will be directed by UN-Habitat team leaders.
Attend meetings and update the team on captured progress, timelines and unfulfilled task by responsible actors as agreed in previous meetings.
Participate in data collection during rapid assessments field works for counties as the UN-Habitat field focal person as and when necessary arrangements are completed.
Support organizing of workshops and trainings related to projects by the branch as will be advised or assigned roles by the concerned branch team leader.
Support in documentation of projects undertaken in partnership with other branches, units and regional offices as will be advised by team leaders.
Contribute technical inputs during meetings and other forums based on facts, acquired skills and experiences when required to.
Education
A first University Degree in, Economics, accounting, taxation, commerce or related field that is relevant for sustainable economic development.
Work Experience
At least 1 year of experience in local economic development projects, or intense commercial environment that significantly correlates to revenue generation and management tasks.
Proven experience in managing projects, large scale information follows and documentation in a computerized environment.
Experience in organizing meetings, workshops and carrying out surveys.
Experience in activities organized by United Nations or other renowned NGO, both for field projects and with stakeholders or within its offices. This is desirable and will be an added advantage.
Substantial understanding of the Kenya governance structures and economic trends.
Sound knowledge of urban development issues and the economic, social and political context of Kenya.
Experienced in research and bulk data analysis, combined with the ability to independently conduct field work, prepare graphic material, documentation and production of detailed economic reports.
Experience in working independently and as part of a team to deliver on time and under pressure
Language Skills
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this consultancy, fluency in oral and written English is required.
