Org. Setting and Reporting
This temporary position is located in Juba in the Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan, which is mandated by the UN Human Rights Council pursuant to resolution 37/31 under the overall supervision of Coordinator of the Secretariat of the Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan.
Responsibilities
In consultation with the national forensic experts, or/and medical staff and after examining the available medical documents, determines the cause in case of sudden, violent, or unexpected death and prepare accurate, comprehensive and concise reports as to his/her findings;
Offers possible reconstruction of events and advice in medico-legal issues concerning the cause of death, gender, approximate age and manner of death of in cases
investigated by the Commission;
Accompanies Human Rights Officers for interviews of victims of violence and conducts examinations in order to analyze the likely cause of the wound / injury and produce related medical reports;
Maintains the confidentiality of all information received or obtained with respect to his/her assignment including through careful logging, safekeeping and preservation of all records and files;
Provides input into any reports to be written under the coordination of the Coordinator of the Secretariat of the International Independent Commission of Inquiry;
Submits a final report including findings and recommendation together with all the files and records to the secretariat at the conclusion of the assignment;
Performs other
related duties as required.
Education
An advanced degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in forensic pathology.
A first level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
A minimum of 7 years of combined professional as a forensic pathologist or a medical doctor at the national and/or international levels is required.
Experience working on conflict settings is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat.
For the position advertised, fluency in English is required.
