UN Driver Jobs in Ethiopia
UN-Habitat is the United Nations programme working towards a better urban future with a mission of promoting socially and environmentally sustainable human settlements development and the achievement of adequate shelter for all.
It is present in Ethiopia since 1998, a date from which it has implemented a series of projects.
In 2013 a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between UN-Habitat and the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing (MUDHo) to support the implementation of the Ethiopian Cities Prosperity Initiative (ECPI).
While providing its support to sustainable urban development in Ethiopia, UN-Habitat has developed a guiding document called UN-Habitat Country programme for Ethiopia (2016-2020).
Building on the global frameworks such as SDG 11, the New Urban Agenda and Ethiopia’s Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP II), the country programme is organized around four pillars: Urban Regional Planning, Urban Resilience, Housing and Urban Basic Services, Urban Monitoring and Research Advocacy.
It also considers cross cutting issues such as Awareness Raising - Participatory Approach Capacity Development - Technical Advice - Policy Support Up on the expiration of the previous agreement signed on 2013, UN-Habitat and Ministry of Urban Development and Housing have signed a new MoU in February 2018 with new collaboration areas, UN-Habitat Country programme being part of the agreement document.
Recently, based on its country programme document, UN-Habitat has development several projects and is preparing to implement them.
One of the projects is “Support to the Sustainable Development of the Hawassa City Cluster; with the specific objective to provide on-the-job technical assistance, progressively build the required capacity of the Hawassa City Government and strengthen the coordination with the HIP, IDPC, the regional government and other concerned stakeholders to cope with the urbanisation impacts of the industrial park, with focus on spatial/urban planning, waste management and housing, at the city cluster scale
Summary of key functions:
Provision of reliable and secure driving services
Proper use of vehicle
Day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle
Availability of documents/ supplies
Process utilities matters
Maintain records and provide logistical support to agencies
Ensures provision of reliable and safe driving services by a) driving office vehicles for the transport of project staff, consultants and officials and visitors
and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items, and b) meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport including customs formalities arrangement when required.
Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc.
Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle.
Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.
Ensures utilities related correspondence are prepared and associated papers and documents are filed. Follows-up utilities bills for timely payments
Ensures incoming mails are sorted and distributed both outside and inside the organization and dispatch outgoing mails
Ensures that all logistical and administrative tasks with other agencies are handled with care

Education - Secondary Education. Valid Driver’s license.
Experience - 4 years’ work experience as a driver; safe driving record; knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair.
Language Requirements - Fluency in Amharic, knowledge of English.
